"and the ocean, calling out to us both. a song of freedom and longing."
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯

In the life cycle of a guardian, there is perhaps no greater event than that which becomes their namesake: their quest to find and protect their charge. In the case of this deep-dwelling beast, that quest was a simple one.

Altusenndea was hatched on a vibrant, if small, coral reef somewhere within the Sea of a Thousand Currents. As the deep blue of her eyes first met the deep blue of her loving ocean, so too did a beautiful array of colors. Fish of all different palettes flickered above her head, the light from above glinting off their iridescent scales. Before even shaking off the shell of her egg, the whelp was reaching for the vivid life of the reef. How fortunate she was, to be born into such beauty.

The Sea and the coral were her parents, despite who actually bore her. This isn't to say that her birth parents were negligent; they provided for her and her siblings until they were all ready to experience the world for themselves. But Altusenndea, despite her breed, felt no need for a journey. She didn't wish to leave.

This flawless essence of life--this was her charge.

And so her family departed, going their separate ways, and she stayed. She remained to protect her reef, and to dissuade any who attempted to threaten it. (Those who needed to hunt were allowed to, but not without a suspicious glare constantly overlooking them.)

When construction of the Oceanarium began, she ignored it. She would mind her business, so long as they minded theirs. But upon discovery of the reef, Baklajan decided it was an ideal breeding ground, an excellent location to ensure the utmost health and elemental power of the hatchlings. On this front, the leader was correct. However, laying eggs there was not so healthy for the parents; the first few pairs were met fleeing the reef, each with brutal, though non-lethal, scratches oozing blood into the water. But upon returning to the reef, they discovered that their eggs were untouched.

Baklajan would not give up this opportunity. Striving to get in good graces with the reef's guardian, she prepared offerings of food, shells, and other bounties of the sea (though she knew better than to offer chunks of coral). And though Altusenndea has not formed trust of the Oceanarium's residents, she has grown to tolerate them, to an extent.

As of now, she continues to dote on her reef and everything in it. This includes any nests created by the nearby clan. She cares for the eggs as if they are her own, because the reef is her charge, and by extension, so too are the eggs. Adult visitors are not taken kindly by the guardian, but she tolerates brief check-ins. Hatchlings, like eggs, are treated with care until their parents deem them fit to leave.

In truth, though she dislikes having to put up with other dragons nosing around the place, Altusenndea enjoys the opportunity to watch new life greet the world. She doesn't consider herself part of the Oceanarium, but she is nonetheless regarded as the privileged role of a Shark by Baklajan and her dragons. She still receives gifts at times, and those of the Oceanarium treat her with great respect.
