Hope

PERSONALITY Hope tries her very best to be a positive, friendly person. She's good at getting to know people and gets stopped on the streets quite often to catch up. There's a lot of anxiety bubbling just underneath the surface, though, and she uses her job as a messenger to escape the well-meaning but overwhelming attention of her Clan.

HISTORY
With love in their hearts they named me Hope, and I couldn't take the expectations.
Hope's parent is Rythka, the Head Diviner of Hagebyen. They're a very old member, and loved and respected by the city.
Hope's mother is Seafoam, who is also an old and respected member, but always has a heavy air of sadness around her.
Seafoam is not open about her past. She is in fact incredibly closed off and avoidant about it and it stressed Hope out a lot when she was young.
Seafoam and Rythka have this desperate protective attitude towards Hope and her brother, Rose, that gets suffocating often.
Rose leaves home pretty young. He still lives in Hagebyen, working as a teacher, but he made it very clear that he didn't want close contact with his parents anymore. He still spends time with Hope, though.
After Rose leaves, Hope goes to the library under the suspicion that whatever Seafoam doesn't like to talk about was something important to Hagebyen as a whole. She finds historical records about the exile of a group called Eclipse, of which Seafoam was a member. She learns about her mother's history with Eclipse's leader and the much more recent records of Seafoam rejoining Hagebyen alongside several others.
Hope gets distant after her library visit, to the horror and despair of her parents so soon after losing Rose. She doesn't resent her parents for hiding the truth, but everything feels different. She sees the twist of pain in their eyes when they call her Hope. Like she was supposed to be the one to fix things.
Hope gets jealous of the Clan messenger, Fang, for getting to leave so often, and becomes his apprentice. She confides in him and listens to his advice and stories about his travels. He was the one to escort the Eclipse refugees back to Hagebyen, and tells Hope about Seafoam in the early days of her return and Hope's other family members.
On one of Hope's first few official flights as a trained messenger, Hope sees a dark skydancer flying much higher than they should be and showing signs of high altitude sickness. She guides them down and the dragon breathlessly introduces himself as Fortvilelse.
Fortvilelse was journeying away from home for the first time, sent out by his parents to gain independence and forge his own path. Hope envied his freedom. She took him to Hagebyen and he was instantly enamored by the expanses of gardens.
Fortvilelse formally joins Hagebyen, and Hope rediscovers the things she loves about her city as she shows him around. The two become a couple.
With a spouse and children, Hope is in Hagebyen more often. She still greatly values the freedom and time alone she gets as a messenger, but now she has something that feels worth coming back to.
