______ Lapis did everything he could to raise Coulbie with love, but Coulbie refused his affections and to acknowledge him as a father, whether he was Lapis' son or not. Coulbie knew his father, but he left one morning. Failing to recognize Lapis' grief, he found out that Micah had left to serve the Windsinger and blamed Lapis for 'sending him off'. Lapis tried his best to explain to Coulbie that he had left on his own free will, that Lapis didn't tell him to do anything. Smokey had assumed the same when Coulbie explained what was going on. The relationship between the three had fallen apart. It wasn't long after that Smokey had left to search for her mate. Neither of them returned home.

______ Word had reached Clan Meridan that Micah had gone missing entirely. Everyone assumed the worst, and the news only worsened the connection between Lapis and Coulbie. Lapis had sworn to take care of Coulbie, but due to his gried and anger, Lapis had instead sent another young Imperial barely older than Coulbie to befriend him. Leonora stuck around the moody Imperial and helped him take care of himself. After Lapis' incident that transformed him into a nocturne, Coulbie made a risky decision: he was going to go search for his mother and father. He sneaked out of the lair while everyone was asleep and took off. He flew out to the abandoned battlefield in which his father was last seen. The ground had corpses strewn about- a majority of them were Wind dragons. His stomach knotted, toward the far end of the field, was a goliath Imperial, but it walked... strangely. Two wings stood out, another hung limply at its side, two tails trailed behind it, intertwined with each other. It bellowed, Coublie heard two very distorted and feral voices in the call. He landed and ducked into a trench after he counted five heads. This wasn't an Imperial- this was an Emperor... He took a deep, quiet breath and finally decided that his was a terrible idea. He got ready to take off, but his wing bumped a barrel and caused it to roll downhill, clattering loudly on the way down. The bellow stopped abruptly. Coulbie whipped around as the Emperor turned and looked straight at him.

______ Coulbie scrambled to try and fly away but his wing was hit by an ice blast, grounding him and preventing him from moving. The mindless beast closed the distance between them, to Coulbie's horror, he recognized two of the heads, one with water-blue crystalline skin with a blood-red mane and lemon-colored cyber markings, and the other with a lavender metallic body, blackberry-colored skeletal markings, and a wisteria mane. None other than his mother and father, now part of a non-sentient amalgamation known as the single most dangerous creature in Sornieth. As the beast neared, he began to feel like a Fae in the presence of... Well, himself or Leonora. The middle head reared up for an elemental attack. Coulbie braced himself for the attack, but heard a screech and a crackle of lightning. He looked up and watched Katska swoop by and hit the Emperor with his tail crackling with lightning. Mizuki jumped in from of Coulbie and bellowed at the beast. Ayers helped Katska in distracting the beast while Mizuki and Aries shielded Lapis as he bashed against the ice to free Coulbie. Once Coulbie was freed, Topaz escorted him home. She had informed him that Neptune saw him leave and told Lapis. When he saw where he was going, Lapis rounded up the clan's strongest dragons and rushed to rescue him- as he had received news recently that an Emperor roamed those grounds.

______ Coulbie and Topaz waited for Lapis and the others to return home. As it got later and later throughout the night, they grew more and more concerned. It wasn't until dawn where they saw any sign of them. Three Nocturnes, a Skydancer, and an Imperial all flew to the landing and dropped to the ground with exhaustion, but minimal injuries. Mizuki and Katska had immediately fallen asleep, Ayers kept his wings open and tried catching his breath, and Aries caught her breath, resting her head against Mizuki's. Lapis stood in shock. He informed Topaz that two of the heads were Micah and Smokey, then pulled Coulbie aside to speak to him in private. He apologized. Had he known that this was the fate to befall his parents, he would have forbidden Micah's insistence in serving the Windsinger. Coulbie apologized to Lapis for his distrust. After this conversation, they both agreed that they would need some time to process.
