Lightwoven

She is everything you could have hoped for.

Light of life, light of hope. She is the gentle wash of new dawn, the falling curtain of sweet summer rain. She is stoic, not in the way of cold stone - but in the immovability of stone ground deep into the earth, here to stay. Shelter in her shadow, linger in her light, she is what mothers could only hope for: the guide, the nurturer, the tender of all kinds of plants, including you.

Idol.png There is peace here beside her. There is safety in knowing the Gods have eyes, and witness your small acts of hope and devotion. They grant you leave to decide your own destiny, the greatest of life's gifts, the worst of our unlucky draw. But with her, you see -- all is well, all will be well, because the Gods have ensured it:

There is always a happy ending.

New dawn, new day.
The past is at rest
Underneath the grove
Where canopy hides the sun.

Heavenly light weaves us,
until we're visible beings.
The undeniable trouble
of being known.

Children of the Sun,
Illuminate the dark.
For we all walk on shadowed paths,
And our lights have long gone out.

There are shadows in this world not even the sun can penetrate.

Born in a creeping shade on a new moon, Taz was one such shadow. Abyss leaked from her eyes as she crawled forth from her retched egg to behold the world in blackness. Without sight, without knowledge, she sought something she could not have: the sun.

All she knew was half the day, it was warm. Comforting, wonderfully warm. She would escape beneath the high canopy and find the gaps between trees where this heat gathered, absorbing it into her blackened scales. No matter how hard she tried, she could not behold that which granted her this feeling. She could see nothing. No color, no motion, no clarity.

Taz wandered endlessly, seeking this phenomenon, slinking low against the ground to avoid the sounds of higher predators who would find her a nice morsel. Her useless wings dragged against the rotten ground, rubbed raw and covered in dirt.

Yet no sadness could find purchase in her heart, for she had those moments in time where she would stretch, relax, and find her scales prickling under the mysterious miracle.

Slowly, Taz made her way across the land. The heat grew by small increments, a way only she could tell, and it seemed to lead her somewhere new. The dirt gave way to broken marble and soft, rolling hills of grass that tickled her wings.

Taz stopped still, having bumped into something. She carefully made her way around the something and found it round in a peculiar way. It had been carved as such, she could feel from careful paws, and there were markings atop it larger than she was.

A voice rang out.

"Wretched creature of Shadow!" it boomed. "Begone from this place at once!"

Taz skittered, tripping over herself to flee, but a massive clawed hand curled around her tiny body and lifted her free of the ground. She flailed uselessly.

"Sacrilege!"

NO, spoke a soft, echoing voice, BRING HER TO ME.

"Goddess ---"

BRING HER.

Taz squeaked as she fell from the clawed hand onto a soft surface. She slid around, trying to escape, but the surface seemed endless, endless, and she could not escape. And the comforting heat, it was intense, fiery, almost burning --

LITTLE SHADOW, the voice said gently, CAN YOU NOT BEHOLD THE SUN BEFORE YOU?

Taz shrank in the force of that voice, that sound, and the warmth that had turned so very hot.

YOU HAVE WANDERED FAR, DRAWN BY FLIMSY HOPE,it continued, I WONDER IF YOU CAN SPREAD THAT HOPE TO OTHERS. YOUR HEART SEEKS WARMTH SO DESPERATELY, BUT DO YOU NOT SEE THAT IT COMES FROM WITHIN?

A glowing. A reckoning. Taz felt something inside herself shift and burn on and on and on until --

Light. Blinding, glorious light.

Taz realized she beheld the sun.

Sight, wonderous sight, had been restored to her. She spread her wings and found them restored and colorful. She would learn soon she had been granted the wings of a monarch butterfly.

KNOW THIS...

Taz turned and saw the wonderous form of a Goddess. The Lightweaver herself was holding her atop one paw, gazing down at her with warming love.

IS IT KINDNESS TO GRANT DESTINY? she asked. FOR YOURS IS TO GUIDE. YOU WILL SEEK THE SHADOW AND BREAK IT APART WITH YOUR LIGHT. YOU WILL FIND THOSE LOST AND HOPELESS AND IGNITE THEIR HEARTS. WITH THIS ACT, I BESTOW YOUR FATE IS TO BE THE SUN YOU SOUGHT FOR SO LONG.

Taz could only nod, stunned beyond silence.

I HAVE DONE ALL I CAN FOR YOU, LITTLE LIGHT. IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO BURN ON FOR OTHERS. GO NOW, AND FLY LIKE THE MONARCH YOU SHALL BE.

Falling. Taz found the safety of the Lightweaver had vanished, leaving empty air and a long, long fall below. She winged in terror, twisting and turning, before opening them completely and catching the wind. Taz had her destiny, her calling. Now, for the first time...

Monarch flew.
