[General notes taken from Omni's journal]

I am... quite aware of the Hivemind situation. Through my life, I've had a chance to meet quite a few individuals, including Hijackers, who are in some way connected to those creatures. However, I have to admit that Helix was one of a kind. If we take aside his pride, impulsive behaviour and half a hundred of other 'pleasant' quirks, he is one of the most formidable weapons. He may prefer to work alone, but when he chooses his target, he will think of every possible outcome, of every possible precaution, of every single tactic. I don't know whether Helix truly knows how to metamorphose a Conscience into a Genesis model, but he dispersed the fact that he knew around the Hive world. This move was genius and suicide at the same time. Helix automatically became a target for lesser Consciences who would like to become Genesis but at the same time, most Hives now prefer to go for 'capture' instead of immediate 'termination'. I have no doubts that this saved Helix's life on multiple occasion but I don't know if he actually knows the secret of Genesis. Moving on, his original master, the Conscience, had conducted numerous genetic modifications on him before he even hatched. I refuse to believe that the Conscience got all the engineering right on the first try, which leaves me wondering how many bodies are lying somewhere; who had the luck to be Helix's 'predecessor'?

Anyway, Helix's creator enhanced his body in all kinds of ways. Helix is too strong even for a Drone skydancer, he is agile and has incredibly quick reactions. I've had a chance to see the black fire that he is able to produce. It's quite a monstrous thing, devouring both organic and inorganic tissue with surprising force. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a sample. I'm left only to wonder what were exact mental corrections Helix's master had done on him. I only know that he is a powerful Hijacker and an extremely intelligent one, having destroyed quite a few Hives and he seems to have no intention of stopping. Perhaps one of the most unique of his abilities would be to create something like automotive computer viruses, pieces of code that cling to the Drone's or even the Conscience's mind, corrupting and forcing the original codes of Hivemind species to go haywire. Considering the shear strength Helix has, I assume that there was some serious conditioning and correcting done. I don't doubt for a second that before he met Sylvia, his thought process would have just above the level of a fairly smart Drone.

On the topic of Sylvia... I'm surprised how attached this Hijacker is to the little permababy. He kills for her after all. To be honest, they make a fine duo. I sometimes find that Sylvia is far more emotionally mature and wise while Helix is... well, there is always room for improvement. The only thing that perhaps concerns me is that one day, Helix will meet his match. It does not matter of 'if', it's a matter of 'when'. Maybe in the future, Helix would realize that his vigilante work will be the end of him. I just hope that it will not be too late for him.

[Entry #1; Helix]

Hm... I suppose this would be for the best. With the growing strength of Hivemind, I see no other way but to back up my memory and all the information I had gathered over the years. This log should not fall into the enemy's hand as it will contain vital information to battle the Hive.

I was assimilated as an egg by a Consciousness. I was supposed to be a weapon against its rivals. Life was so simple back then, I was conditioned perfectly. I was the result of my master's thirst for power, a Hijacker who went through multiple complex genetic experiments. I had no flaws and was as loyal to my Consciousness as one could be while retaining some of the autonomy. I was not fully sentient back then - my thought processes were not as complex as of my creator. Nevertheless, because of the way I was assimulated, I was highly intelligent. My master wanted a weapon that would be able to adapt to any situation, to solve his problems as quickly and efficiently as possible. Now that I look back in time, I realize that this Consciousness made only one single mistake, missing one single glitch that changed everything. I was too intelligent. Too curious. I learned too well.

Back then I was not permitted to interact with anyone outside the Hive. I was a hollow, compliant being, just starting to form my own thoughts and meagre opinions. My master was stretched thin, so it sent me to a farther Hive outpost to directly control the Drones there. It was the first time when I was not constantly following direct orders. This freedom felt empty to me, I could not quite comprehend it. I desperately wanted to return or to find something that would fill in that void. After all, I was created to serve. I would occasionally venture out of the outpost, mindlessly walking around, trying to modify my own thought processes to exterminate the useless sensation. That's when I found a little pink abomination that changed everything.

[Entry #2; notes of an unknown anti-hive scientist]

As expected, the Hijacker had taken interest in the little hatchling we had provided. Surprisingly, we were not able to see the assimilation process through the cameras attached to the hatchling. The Nocturne victim did not seem scared of the Hijacker. In fact, her actions would have been best described as 'friendly' if not 'clingy'. We might have severely miscalculated by presuming that the Hijacker was the perfect genetic experiment of the local Consciousness. From the recordings, the Hijacker was curious about the victim, while the hatchling continued to talk about everything and nothing. It seemed like at first the Hijacker had the urges to bring in and assimilate the victim but decided otherwise.

[Entry #3; Helix]

Now that I think back in time to that moment, I realize I did not feel an attachment to the hatchling for a long time. The only thing I really felt was... curiosity. The being was so different from the mindless drones I was used to commanding. She was not an 'it', she had individuality. She had a personality, like my master, but her character was very different. She was not afraid of me and perhaps this lack of fear made me reconsider my logical sentiency. I knew that I should have brought her into the hive to be assimilated. But the moment she started chatting about all the things in the world I stopped and listened. Back then I could not describe how just her presence felt. Now I do. Sylvia was a little, almost naive hatchling who fluttered, blabbered and felt like a little ray of sunshine. She kept on talking and I listened, remembering everything. She talked about elements, about clans of dragonkind, about her hatchmate and what she had eaten for breakfast. She talked about how tired and hungry she was, about the pretty butterflies in the sunshine, about the weird snake that tried to bite her. And I listened. And learned.

I came every day to visit the peculiar creature that I've found. Sylvia was stubborn and insisted that she should go with me and visit my clan. As time went, visit after visit, I started to piece together my own individuality of which I was stripped off through the genetic modifications. For the very first time, I wanted something. I wanted to be something. So I listened. I listened to the little hatchling who was full of life, energy and personality.

After a while, my thought processes became complex enough to form not only the feeling of curiosity which went against the wished of the Consciousness but I could ask concrete questions that would not have been appreciated by ma master. I never asked those to anybody in my Hive, but I started to question. I would never know whether my master knew about the mental changes I was going through. Nowadays, it does not matter. However, I started to question even things that I could not have as an emprinted Hijacker. I started to question where my loyalties lied.

[Entry #4; notes of an unknown anti-hive scientist]

After careful observations, we must conclude that the Hijacker was somehow reimprinting. That in some way, the little she-dragon had emprinted the Hijacker, making it undermine its own master.

We had monitored the visits of the Hijacker since their first meeting. The hatchling lived under a small ravine inside the roots of the tree, staying quite secure. The Hijacker started to develop an identity and started to talk with the hatchling. In his later visits, he even argued with her (now we know that the Hijacker identifies itself as he). Hopefully, this material will be useful against the Hivemind.

The Hijacker, now having a concrete and stable individuality, seemed to develop certain personality traits visible during the conversations with the hatchling. As expected, those personality traits are somewhat tied to the contradictory of the habitat he lives in. The Hijacker seems to be proud, extremely proud if one can say so. Just as a Hive dragon would be expected to be, he is very efficient, somewhat cold and not prone to showing his emotions. Surprisingly, the Hijacker showed strong signs of eccentricity and almost sadistic, 'outside the box' strategic thinking. Although it is safe to say that if this abomination were to sprout an extra pair of wings, I would be not very surprised and we just as well can expect anything from his mindstate. He is not only the rare Hijacker to overcome the urges to obey his original master but to also overcome the forceful genetic engineering and conditioning the Consciousness had conducted.

[Entry #5; Helix]

All was going well. You see, I had no reason to decide were my loyalties truly lay. I continued to visit Sylvia. I continued to learn about the world outside the Hive, even though her point of view was of a naive hatchling. I learned that Sylvia was eternally youthful. She said that some strange magic made her become so. I continued to slip out of the outpost to check on her. Eventually, something was bound to go wrong, even if I liked to pretend otherwise.

In the early morning, I heard the commotion and surprising amount of dirty cursing. It took me a moment to realize that this voice was oddly familiar. I still remember the dread I've felt when I understood that it was not me who had immediate control over the Drones. This dread was the first emotion I had experienced so strongly and I did not like it. I had to act fast. Thankfully, my indecision, along with other numerous harmful traits, was eradicated through the genetic engineering I was subjected to while being in the egg. Mental changes were not the only ones that were conducted. My master left me a tiny drop of connection to my elemental magic. My abilities were mostly biological, though.

I burst into the chamber, my movements were quick but efficient and thoroughly calculated. That was the first time when I hijacked the drones. It was nothing grand, I acted purely on instincts. I overrode the surrounding me drones, forcing them to stop working for a dozen of seconds while keeping the enraged Consciousness unable to connect. I remember how awfully incorrect everything felt. Like I was doing something so deranged and wrong that even my insides felt sick. But this feeling gradually subsided. I grabbed the stiffened Sylvia from the Drones, lunging toward the exit. Before departure, I've opened my mouth, ingulfing the whole room into orange and black flames. I could barely recall the next few minutes. I fled the outpost, chased by my enraged master through its Drones. I flew for hours before finally stopping. Then, for the first time in hours, I dared to look directly at Sylvia which I've been carrying in my arms.

It seemed I've miscalculated after all. Some of the assimilation liquid must have been injected into her bloodstream. The downing feeling of despair felt like a sudden pit that meant to devour me. For your understanding, my dear reader, you have to realize I've never really experienced emotions properly and on that meaningful day I experienced the full spectrum of all the negative ones. Nevertheless, as I looked into her eyes, I realized that perhaps not all was lost. Her eyes were terrified, but they looked at me with the same liveliness and personality. Her mind was untouched and the small amount of fluid only managed to affect her appearance. Instead of being coloured in light moon tint, she was primarily black.

I remember looking into the sky into the sunset. I remember clutching the terrified hatchling I've come to appreciate. I remember promising her to not abandon and protect her with my life. As the sun slipped over the horizon, painting the landscape with red and orange tints, I felt the last sensation of the emotional rollercoaster of that day. I felt the rage that I've never felt before. The cold fury towards those who dared and would dare to challenge me. The overwhelming feeling to destroy anyone on my and Sylvia's path and the fleeting ping of pity for those who would indeed try to do so.
