Esper has the gift of telepathy. He can talk to others who have the gift as well. His gift was self taught and he can teach others a portion of the technique. His best friend, Cliff, is an example of a dragon he has taught and they talk through telepathy most of the time. According to Esper some dragons have seen him and Cliff talking while using telepathy and they would just stare, apparently creeped out by them laughing by just looking into each others eyes.
