The First Clutch
Edmunnd wasn't very proud of his clan, but it was his. wasn't it? he knew that the bloodline would be...difficult to carry on now that dad was out of the picture...
he was finally of age to try to make a family of his own, but he was in no rush. that is, until he saw her.
Whimsy. perfect name too, she was jumping and frolicking all around the main camp, snapping at insects that buzzed around in the waning light of the evening. he had seen her around here and there when they were younger, but being in the First Family of the clan had him travelling in different society...
she did look brilliant tonight tho, the yellow in her skin catching the last rays of light, making her sparkle and glow. he couldn't understand the sudden tightness in his chest as he watched her. well. maybe be could, but that didn't mean he understood it.
shaking his head, he took a deep breath, and walked over to her.

she knew who he was, how could you not? he was the last son of Jareth, this clan's founder. it wasn't easy, the mutation that took him over caused the clan to become unguarded, open, unruly. there was no order anymore...
but she had hope in Edmunnd Jareth-son. she was sure between him and the guardian brothers that were loyal to the Clan, some semblance of order was bound to finally return to them.
oh, but here he came! uncertainly, sure of himself, it was like he couldn't decide between the two. she stopped frolicking and cocked her head at his approach, her four eyes blinking slowly at him.
"um, hello Whimsy. you may not remember or know me very well-"
"i know who you are Eddie" she laughed at him kindly. always so serious with him she thought.
"right, of course, i just...wanted to tell you how nice you looked tonight" he grinned sheepishly. she just blinked a few times before she giggled and shook her head. gotta love the straight-forward tundras.
"thank you, your fur shines in the moonlight" she praised coyly. he shook out his fur proudly, earning another round of giggles from the mirror.
"anyways, i was wondering if maybe you would care to spend some more...quality time together?" he asked earnestly, hope written all over his face. Whimsy was floored. such a question! and here she thought he had no idea who she was. she was sure he would be interested in a skydancer or imperial, or even his own kind! someone more...regal than she knew she was. her shocked silence was making him uncomfortable, and he tried to chuckle and excuse himself when she suddenly pounced on him, surprising the young drake and knocking him to the ground.
she looked into his eyes with all four of her own, searching. she nuzzled his cheek with her own.
"silly" she said "of course i would like to know you better. i was surprised, i wasn't sure you even knew who i was" she climbed down to lay next to him. he nlinked a few times in shock, rolled over, and snuggled her happily. she giggled again, at him no doubt, but he didn't care, this was the start of something new for the clan. it was his time.

that evening went on much the same, playing and learning of each other, flirting. he knew it was the beginning of an interesting and new chapter of his story. their first union resulting in just one egg. their hopes and dreams would shape the child into the clan's Future
