Endless did not believe that death was necessary. He'd quite firmly believed that from the time he was hatched, and began believing in it obsessively after losing one of his friends very early in life. So as he grew, he turned to alchemy, magic, and science to try to thwart the decay that life brought.

Figuring he would have time, he was very meticulous about his experiments. Endless wanted to be careful, and to not bring about any harm in his zeal to bring about extended life. Unfortunately, he forgot to factor in the idea that nature is random and sometimes cruel. The spiral fell deathly ill, and not any of his arts nor those of the healers he consulted could do anything about it.

Absolutely desperate, Endless gathered up everything he could and headed for the deepest, darkest parts of the forest. Finding a clearing in the middle of some ancient trees, the dragon set up his items and began work.

Now, forest spirits can be capricious at the best of times... but performing unasked for magic and alchemy in their refuge definitely is not the best way to get their attention. Slightly grumpy, but also a little amused, the spirit decided to grant the wish. But not in the way Endless had hoped.

Coming to after an abrupt blank, Endless twisted up out of the ground. His body had been taken apart and put back together using not only his own flesh and bone, but other bones, feathers, and foliage from the forest. His eyes could now see the energies flowing through all the living things, but he had a harder time making out the world as he had known before.

Fleeing from his home, Endless had to find a new place to hide because his appearance now brought to mind evil omens and bad luck. His searching led him to Chaotic Daydreams, where oddities such as himself are treasured. Here, perhaps, he can continue his studies... and maybe someday find his way back to who he had been.
