It's not uncommon to find Gharaahni between snapped boughs of great trees, rubble and ruin, or simply nothing but dust. A fear-instilling size and a jaw capable of crushing whole logs in two as if they were chopsticks is enough to signal to anyone that the Snapper is an absolute force to be reckoned with. With a stature like hers it is simply logical to become a mercenary, to sell your muscles to the next travelling army which has treasure and food; if you belong to no caste. Many a doubter of this ex-mercenary's loyalty have become pulp under her feet; loyalty questioned is loyalty undeserved.

Divine terror is what was felt by Carnifex and Opportunity when this beast encroached upon a patrol. A strong believer and a dragon with not a single twinge of fear in her fibres hesitated at her sight - that is saying something indeed. But not all mercenaries are blood-thirsty. Perhaps the last of this sub-species, Gharaahni is a pacifist in her down time. Enormous build and over-developed war horns were simply decoration when she was not being paid to fight; as it was when she met the Brute and his still-apprenticed Architect, with the Lioness in tow. Swallowing fear, they offered the lost Snapper food and a shelter of appropriate size (which she rejected) in exchange for her stories; her knowledge. Nobody had ever asked for that from her.

So, Gharaahni told them. Everything. From the very moment a dull, dusty Earth egg cracked open to reveal a deformed hatchling, glowing at the joints in a sickly green. Through trials and tribulations and exiles and battles. Through the Battle of the Earthshatter, which tore her wings and marked her permanently.

"I remember little of how it happened actually happened... But I remember before."

"I was travelling with some... some horrid gang of bandits. But they paid well and fed even better."

"And what of their banners? Colour? Sigil?"

"They had no banners, friend. Only steel and tooth and claw and armour... And rage. They were wanted in multiple places for thieving, lying, cheating, and multiple counts of murder. And that perhaps wasn't the worst of it. A certain brute by the name of Djinn paid me extra to keep my mouth and eyes shut to their recruitment schedule - the stealing of eggs."

"Djinn, you say?"

"Djinn. His claws were dipped in molten gold as a hatchling, and he coated them anew each year, by robbing both blacksmiths and jewellers of their businesses. I helped with that, once. I will not be false; he was effective as a leader, and the ruffians looked up to him like no other. They were inches away from kissing those golden talons." ... "I was accepted, but I knew I was never one of the pack. Suiting, for I never wished to be. Nevertheless, when a small Glade community launched an ambush, I defended those unworthy idiots with might. I threw my tail against the ground so hard that Djinn's enemies would tumble into sinkholes I created. Djinn returned the favour by driving his revered claws through my wings after the battle. It is a good thing I could not fly in the first place."

"But he could. And he did, after I kicked him further than he'd ever flown. He wobbled through the sky like a newborn chick, his ribs and legs direly injured, before crashing some hundreds of metres away, and falling against the pine trees."

"What happened with him?"

"I would like to think that the dragons of the Glade tore him to shreds for his crimes after he hit the ground. But that is wishful thinking... I am unaware."

"And what about --"

"That's enough for now, Ubik. Leave the lady alone."
