______ It'd been a long time since Zudal last had rest. Perhaps now would be a good time. He raised his head, glancing around him. He was nearing the edge of the great earthern border, and soon he could cross into the mysterious mists of the arcane realm. There he could share his wealth. Not a hoard of trinkets, nor a collection of gold. His wealth was his knowledge.

______ Strange whispers flowed through his ears as Zudal came to a landing in a soft, verdant patch of grass. The arcane dragons all turned their heads to examine the strange dragon who had so calmly and confidently landed in their territory. Zudal bowed, knowing that they could not resist his calling for long. For he had knows their secrets long before, and there was nothing they could hide from him, whether they wanted to or not. Nobody had a choice, not when he was around.

______ The whispers had died down a long time ago. Zudal was now a widely-known dragon. The clans of the arcane realm were always in constant debate of who or what he truly was, and whether he was hiding something. As Zudal sat in his siheyuan, he let a small grin appear across his face. The turmoil was spreading. Soon, all would be right once more. Now, it was time for him to speak one last time, then leave. For good.

______ He was there, but he wasn't. It was as if his spirit had left, yet he was still there somehow. Since the dawn of the autumn, Zudal had never once left his siheyuan, much to the confusion of the dragons that had come to accept and even worship him. Some days, they saw steam rising from the rooftop, and others a candlelight flickering with the breeze. But never once did they see Zudal.

______ Until one day, when a hatchling stumbled across him in the deep woods behind the clan center. Unbeknownst to all but himself, Zudal had been waiting for this moment for a long time. The hatchling had been blessed by the deities, and Zudal needed him to carry a message from him to the other dragons. Never one to directly give away his intentions, he gifted the hatchling with a parcel, telling it to never open it until he had successfully delivered it to the blue-souled dragon at the observatory.

______ Of course, the dragon didn't exist. The hatchling grew, but never delivered his package. As for Zudal, no one was sure where he resided. Some say he had retreated into his hut. Others thought he had mysteriously left in the night. Still some thought he had died. Zudal himself never appeared to most dragons anymore. Only a few dragons ever had the surprise of seeing him, and being gifted his curse.
