Markarth was the first dragon to take up the title of Rimehaven's Protector, which is something no one asked him to do. Regardless, Markarth can often be found patrolling Rimehaven for threats and leaves himself very little time for recreational activities. Known as "The Gargoyle of Rimehaven," he can often be seen perched atop icy peaks with his familiars. Confused for a statue, many attackers don't realize he's actually a dragon until they get too close. Many are often scared off.

Despite his incredibly intimidating appearance, Markarth is very friendly, although blunt, with those seeking sanctuary within Rimehaven. His fire elemental abilities allow him to keep others warm as he leads them to safety.

Markarth is often annoyed by Vrilyx, a Banescale that also decided to be one of Rimehaven's protectors. He finds her method of charging straight into battle dangerous and foolish despite its effectiveness. In secret, Markarth is growing fond of his younger rival, though he'd never admit it to anyone.
