╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ Anubis is one of the most formidable and feared deities in Sornieth, being the ruler over death and all that encompasses it. Effectively, he is the one who determines when someone should die, and the one who leads them into the afterlife. Many view him as terrifying, something to be avoided at all costs, and knowing the role that he plays, it is no surprise that they would. None of that really bothers Anubis though, he understands why they would fear him and see him as such. However, there has been one particular question that has been gnawing at the back of his mind ever since he was appointed the role, that being: “What is it like to die?” Being an immortal, Anubis has never once gone through the process of death himself; in fact it is impossible for him to, given his status. Despite that, he has always wondered what it is like to experience the one thing almost all dragons fear throughout their lives. Indeed, death is such a universal experience, yet Anubis has no inkling of what it feels like. Sure, he understands the journey one has to undertake from their deathbed to the afterlife, but to feel it? Not really. Sometimes, Anubis ponders if he really is suited for the job. A god who rules over death, yet has never once experienced it… Doesn’t that seem strange? Then again, Anubis has observed the way so many dragons would cower before death, and the lengths they would go just to evade it. For instance, he often comes across dying dragons who are desperate to the point that they would offer one of their own kin to him as a living sacrifice, in hopes that he would grant them a longer lifespan instead. (Not that it works though, Anubis prides himself on not accepting bribes, you see. In fact, he finds such behaviour rather abhorrent.) These occurrences make Anubis wonder if he is instead lucky that he managed to ‘escape’ death's grasp. Of course, being the one who oversees the entire process, he does not view it as a horrific or scary thing at all. Still, scary or not, Anubis just wishes he could experience death for once. Just once. The god of death’s greatest wish: to die once. How comical! Thinking about it makes Anubis smirk, but deep down, it is something that he truly longs for. Perhaps one day he will be able to fulfil his dream... [WIP] | aaaa |
