Jacks was hatched eldest of her nest in the Clan of Three Cities, a cutthroat ghost city more like a street gang than a true clan. With her mother largely absent and her father utterly spineless, it fell to the young Jacks to care for her siblings, the only family she could truly trust. To this end, she was forced to grow up far too quickly, integrating herself into an adult world that was not kind to hatchlings like her.

Desperate to provide for her family, Jacks figured out rather swiftly that she was gifted with a silver tongue and a charming demeanor. She quickly learned how to use this to her advantage— putting up a charismatic façade in order to trick dragons out of their money. When her burgeoning magic abilities came in, Jacks integrated that as well, weaving enchantments into her words. Soon, the only ones who could see her true personality were her beloved siblings, with her mask nearly never slipping.

Prepared to do almost anything for her family, when they ran into trouble, it was Jacks who organized them to move across the continent, heading for the faraway Starfall Isles. By that point, they were all nearly grown, and the journey ended up being less of a family relocation and more of a family separation. Her youngest brother refused to leave the Shifting Expanse, and along the way, her other brother Queens said goodbye to sail the seas.

Alone for the first time in her life, Jacks wandered until she encountered Rara Avis, a thriving clan ripe with pigeons to pick from. She decided to make the clan her new stomping grounds, changing tack to playing rigged games of cards to fleece her targets. Though her activities are technically illegal, she is tolerated— mostly for the show she puts on with every game.

A controversial figure in Rara Avis, those who have been played by her dislike her, but those who haven't enjoy her theatricality. Jacks resides in one of the rented rooms at The Golden Rose, though she's nearly a permanent resident anyway.

She misses her family, but thankfully, she hasn't been entirely abandoned— her brother Queens is still very much in contact, and they communicate via trained pigeons. Without her siblings behind her, Jacks is lost, pointless with no one to protect after devoting herself to it for so long. But there's more marks to fleece, and more money to gain, and thusly, Jacks persists.

◈ Along with playing rigged games of cards, Jacks also sells bootlegged, low-quality items at her ramshackle market stall. Nearly anything you buy from her will probably be fake.
◈ Amphibia is one of the only things Jacks trusts, and she is careful to provide the wavehopper with anything it needs.
◈ The patterns on Jacks' wings are magic in nature, but she didn't do them herself. They stem from the coat she wears, and fade if she removes the coat.
◈ Riddles is a trickster goddess, one who intruded into Jacks' dreams one night, only to be surprised when the Coatl answered all of her questions accurately and managed to outspeak her. The two are now lovers, and Riddles appears often in her dreams.
