Thomas Jopson
Captain's Steward of HMS Terror

Thomas Jopson was born in London and baptized on December 8, 1816. He was the son of William Jopson and Sarah Jopson. He had three younger sisters; Mary, Sarah, and Anne Jane.

In 1838, Jopson joined the Royal Navy. The first ship he served on was the sloop HMS Racer. On September 12, 1839, Jopson joined Sir James Ross' Antarctic expedition as the Captain's Steward aboard HMS Terror. This would be his first time serving with Captain Francis Crozier.

In the Spring of 1845, Jopson joined the Franklin expedition, once again, serving as Captain's Steward aboard the HMS Terror.
