Sanguine: Behind the Name

Sanguine is a deep red color, as well as one of the four Humors, represented by blood.

Greek Physician Hippocrates (460–370 BC) believed that certain human moods, emotions, and behaviors were caused by an excess or lack of body fluids (called "humors"), which he classified as blood, yellow bile, black bile, and phlegm. The four temperament theory is a proto-psychological (pre-psychology) theory which suggests that there are four fundamental personality types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. These personalities are determined by the concentration of different humors in an individual's body.

Melancholic - Excess Black Bile
Phlegmatic - Excess Phlegm (mucus)
