Biography
Cayenne
~Cajun Chef~
~Cajun Chef~
|
Cayenne is a fast-talking, quick-witted, Cajun chef. His attitude and the dishes he makes are just as peppery as his name, though he has been known to tone it down a bit for the other clan members. Every so often, his passionate Fire nature will break through and he'll get into a heated argument with someone, but he soon cools off and becomes contrite once more. Much more controlled than his fellow chef, Cayenne is in charge of large-scale banquets, maintaining the pantry, and much more importantly, presenting a civilized face when guests come to visit. Petra is a pirate, and liable to threaten to eviscerate anyone who doesn't like her food. Petra leaves the pantry stocking and inventory sorting to him, as the Skydancer finds the endless repetition to be soothing. First time clan visitors are often surprised when they pass by the kitchen and hear the seemingly prim and proper Skydancer belting out bawdy sea shanties with Petra and her crew of Scythe Kamaitachi. In the early years of his stay, he clashed horribly and often with Petra, and it soon become commonplace to evacuate the kitchen and call in the water dragons whenever The fighting became so bad that the Matriarch herself stepped in and implemented a rotating schedule to keep them out of each others' sights. Festival days and other such occasions required the expertise of both cooks, and they were still forced to work together. It wasn't until Petra - relentless, stubborn, would sooner cut off her own tail than show weakness, Petra - burst into tears after a particularly biting remark that Cayenne realized was a complete jerk he had been. For an entire week, silence reigned in the kitchen, until the Skydancer gathered up his courage to apologize (there may have several gifts of patisseries, Cajun specialties, and even a marble bust with a placard declaring Petra the undisputed captain of the kitchen). Ever so slowly, the two dragons tentatively opened up, accepting that they both had much they could learn from the other. Today, Cayenne is a much more reserved dragon that before. He strives to maintain a calm face at all times, and ruthlessly suppresses his passionate Fire nature when in polite company. The only thing he cannot abide, however, is incompetence. That and insubordination are certain to revert him to a foul-mouthed fire-breathing (literally) fury, until he's sent out of the kitchen, sometimes forcibly, by Petra. Once he's cooled down, he immediately becomes embarrassed and contrite. He has been known to avoid the unfortunate recipient of his outburst for days until he feels capable of apologizing. Training his adoptive son, McKay, in the cooking arts was a particularly challenging time. Cayenne has kept his sharp tongue, though his criticism has become much more constructive. Instead, he has developed a wide range of humor and is incredibly skilled at making inside jokes that soar over others heads, or dropping terrible puns straight-faced into the middle of conversations. His humorous repartee often sends his mate Paprika into hysterics, and has even earned a grudging smirk from Darkkon from time to time. |
