Sunflower
BACKGROUND
Keeper of the Garden he/him A Gaoler of a family devoted to the Seeker Order, Sunflower's childhood was spent in training for his eventual duties -- to seek out and contain the Shade's creatures wherever they might disrupt Sornieth. He could have chosen a different path, technically. But despite his rather ill-fitting attitude for the job -- his competence has been doubted more than once -- he proved quite good at it, and, well, he didn't have any other ambitions. Working alternately on his own and with a small group of other Seekers, Sunflower captured dozens of Shade-corrupted monsters. Not every mission went off without a hitch, though -- his group was very good at what they did, sure, but they came back with their share of scars every time. Nothing they couldn't heal from, but warnings -- suggestions of what could happen next time, if they weren't fast enough or smart enough. Eventually someone would mess up -- it was inevitable. What Sunflower wasn't expecting was that, in one of their hunts, the Shade managed to corrupt him. His group pursued him as prey for several long months, and it wasn't until the chase turned into a fight that he remembered who he had been. Disgusted by himself, ashamed by what had happened, and with the blood of his dead friends on his hands, Sunflower fled, eventually settling down at the Grove, where he took up his duties as a Seeker keeping an eye on both the Garden and the Shade-corrupted Gardeners within. PERSONALITY Sunflower is a researcher. More than that, he's the only Gardener who isn't either unpleasant, incomprehensible, or just plain refuses to communicate, so he gets the unenviable job of being the face of the whole affair. You would be forgiven for thinking the Garden has nothing more than an old and unearned reputation, because as long as he concentrates he is by all appearances completely normal, if prone to goofing off on the job. This is, of course, not the case. Sunflower would be the first to tell you that. He's very friendly, with a fondness for starting long conversations with the people who come in just wanting to borrow a book or check the records. Most of the time they all feel too bad to yell at him about it, too, because that's pretty much all the interaction he gets on a day to day basis. Being the face of the Garden is a full time job. This isn't to say he just chatters on about himself for hours; he loves making friends and learning about new people, enjoys growing flowers in his free time, and is just very soft and kind all around. This is as long as you abide by the rules, because while Sunflower is willing to put up with getting yelled at (though you'll probably feel like you kicked a puppy), he has absolutely no tolerance for people acting up in the Garden. He might be a sweetheart overall, but he has one job and he's going to do it as well as possible; he's really in charge in name only, but that's up until there's a threat. You absolutely should not force him to prove the claws aren't just for show. |
