In Themoros' frequent absence, her word is law.
With her calm and unbiased demeanor, her decisionmaking contrasts strongly with Themoros' hotheaded trigger happy executions.
The loss of her two daughters has left deep wounds and scarred the harmony between her and Themoros, changing his behavior for the worse. It has driven Valaren to seek solace elsewhere - Nivedi's willingness to listen to her grievances and his words of comfort made the two of them quickly grow close and intimate. They have sworn to keep their relationship secret, so Nivedi plays the role of her advisor.
