HISTORY

Covered from head to toe in wispy blue flames and ribbons of violet silk, with a gaze shrouded in forever contemplation, Zeije certainly lives up to the hefty titles they bear. Empress of the Tavern, Seeker of the Muse; out of all the dragons that spend their time around the Crescendo, no name draws more whispers than theirs. Some claim their position as the Tavern's unofficial (but vastly accepted) 'leader' of sorts is too good to be true — Arcane eyes didn't manifest themselves out of nowhere, after all — while others insist they're the best dragon for the job. Surprisingly young but more than capable of handling their responsibilities, there is no telling just how much history and mystery is hidden behind this Skydancer's star-speckled eyes...

It is said that Zeije's story starts in a dwindling Arcane clan near the Plague border. With the misfortune of being born and raised under the prickly thorns of the Starwood Strand (perhaps this is where their obsession with the stars stem?), it seemed like it was only fate that led them to suddenly one night stray from their parents' protection. The night was too dark, too haunted, and for several days, little hatchling Zeije who couldn't yet recognize the stars wandered aimlessly towards where they hoped their parents were; however, little did they know, every step they took brought them closer and closer to the Plaguebringer's realm. Days passed. Months passed. Every minute of their lives was spent searching for the familiar violets and lavenders of a family they hardly remembered anymore. Through the Scarred Wastelands, the Starfall Isles and Southern Icefields they travelled, learning tidbits about each and every clan that they passed by... until one day, right about when they were ready to leave the clans of Ice, they met him. Mitsu.

An Arcane-born Skydancer exactly like themself, Mitsu caught Zeije's attention the moment they laid eyes on him. Though they didn't realize it at first, the supposed 'love' between the two was mostly fueled by Zeije's vague but desperate need to see their family again. Mitsu, both being a Skydancer and a brilliant purple one at that, sparked the long-since dormant wanting again — nothing else. But by the time that came to light, it was too late, for Zeije already had a nest of two eggs to take care of and no mate to help her out. In the dead of night, unseen, unheard, veiled in the silence of the midnight air, Mitsu had slipped away into the evening, never to be seen again.

As it turned out, Zeije was not at all a good parent. The issues of not only the lack of a proper childhood but also the panic of suddenly being all alone again manifested themselves in a hasty decision to drop the two eggs off with an unknowing pair of new Ice parents and then disappear as well, which was exactly what they ended up doing. Even now, after so many months, Zeije refuses to visit either of their children — though for what reason exactly, nobody knows. Perhaps it's because the two of them were the only mistakes they had ever made. Perhaps it's because it reminds her of Mitsu and her family. It is, as most things are with them, a mystery.

Upon her disappearance, Zeije fled to the only domain that they felt they could find protection in: Windsinger's. Sure enough, they happened to stumble into the territory of a new, growing clan almost immediately, led by a kind Guardian by the name of Zyn who didn't hesitate to accept them into the clan. And while they weren't a capable parent, they most definitely were a born leader; practically off the bat, they took charge, organizing the clan into ranks (to the disgruntlement of some — see Hallow) and renaming it the Tavern after the wide variety of breeds, origins, and dragons that tended to stick around. Under their watch, their numbers swelled. Botanists, archivists, battle-hungry warriors, readers and thinkers and dreamers alike now mill through the Tavern, and it sure doesn't look like their growth will stop anytime soon.

There are still hundreds of questions that circulate through the clan to this day about curious, mysterious Zeije. Have they truly, earnestly, and fully shifted their allegiance to the kind Windsinger instead of the Arcanist? Do they remember their family? Do they still care? Will they ever leave, and if they do, what will happen?

Questions, questions, questions... the list never ends.

TRIVIA

Zeije gets along wonderfully with Ascalaphus, the Tavern archiver. It's really no wonder; the two of them are both so interested in philosophy and all things theoretical that their peers are beginning to think they were actually born from the pages of a book.
They also seem to be very curious about the newest Obelisk.
The ribbons wrapping Zeije's wings are not merely decoration. Rumors say there's something dark and secretive about those lavender butterfly wings of theirs that they try so hard to keep covered...
For some strange, peculiar, and totally unsuspicious reason, Zeije tends to stray far, far away from other purple dragons. They do seem to find purple objects quite fascinating, though.
