Biography
"If you unroll this parchment a little further, you'll find a cheat code to win Flight Rising."
The eggs sat warmly nestled and Icarus couldn’t help looking at them every few seconds. It felt as though his heart had been torn from him and placed in a nest, prone to the world. They were like no other eggs he’d ever seen, fragile but somehow appearing as stone. It was a wonder she had laid any eggs at all. It was a wonder they were in this situation. It was a wonder she loved him so much. How had he gotten so lucky? He was once perfect. Born to nobility, Icarus was a child of great beauty. Pure white with no flaw to be seen, he was the envy of any who witnessed him. Any dragon would feel blessed to have such a child, would want such a child as their own. Any dragon... save his own parents. Icarus’ father was a tyrant of his land. The small grouping of farms that he ruled over tucked in the corner seemed out of the reach of royalty. Perhaps the lack of oversight was what drove him to his power-mad state. His wife was no better. Her obsession with wealth and glamor made her constantly whispering in her husband’s ear, egging him on. Their son was expected to be perfect. One claw out of line, one wing out of place, and Icarus learned the meaning of discipline. As Icarus grew, he spent more time outside, getting to know the people living around them. His heart ached for them. He could no longer stand by and watch his parents take advantage of them, so he confronted his father. He threatened to take the matter to someone in a higher position. This confrontation did not go well. His father sought to teach him a lesson about going against his authority. His mother made no move to stop him. She wouldn't have her riches stolen from her. Not by anyone. Not even her son. And so a lesson was learned. In full. Icarus was no longer perfect. The assault on his body left behind scarring that marred his flawless white visage. He was tucked away out of sight, forced into military service where he would never be heard. Not that he could be anymore. Along with his appearance and his home, Icarus also lost his voice. Not a word has been heard from him in years. And in that time he learned to become a stalwart warrior. His heart slowly turned to stone. However, fter finding himself injured in the wake of battle, Icarus met a healer named Galatea. Not only did she heal his injury, but began to heal him in full. She was perfect. Their time together seemed like a lifetime all its own. Icarus had never known a love like the one he seized with Gala. Though he had no voice, she seemed to understand him without trouble. She quelled his anger and made him want to be better. She showed him a life outside of battle, a life he could have if he only gave himself over to her entirely. And he almost did... When they became parents it was perhaps the happiest Icarus could have ever been. He was going to have children with the woman he loved. What could be better than that? But when the babies hatched marred like him, flawed in an incomprehensible way, Icarus couldn't handle the burden he'd placed on such innocent dragons. There was never such a thing as perfect. In his sadness and with great regret, Icarus fled. He left behind his new life with the dragon he loved and his children, feeling he had done nothing but harmed them. He felt they would be better off without him, just like his parents. He fled with a heavy heart that hardened once more in his chest and settled in a small, secluded village called Dreki. It didn't take long for the leader to recognize his talent for violence, taking him in as a close friend and confidant, as one of his Blodherlid. Sworn to serve as one of Magnus' most trusted warriors, he tries to forget his past and learn to live as he is. Imperfect |
