Much time had passed since those of Lamaris had heard from the Tidelord, and many were beginning to lose hope that he would ever return.

It had been over a year since Urian and Elasilinn’s betrayal, and the clan was doing their best to get by—both, by overcoming their grief, and by gathering enough supplies to continue moving deeper into the Trench. There was, after all, no way they could remain in a place so tainted by tragedy or so exposed to the Marens.

They travelled for a time, living a nomadic, solitary lifestyle, neither sending word to their allies nor trusting new clans they happened across.

After a while, the Lamarians found a new home in wall of the Trench, several caves connected by a series of tunnels. To their weary minds and bodies, it was surely their safest option for a long term lair.

...But if they’d hoped for a comfortable settling down, they were mistaken; not long after they moved in, there came a great rumbling that shook the whole of Sornieth, as if the Earthshaker himself had woken from his long nap. With the Tidelord being gone, however, the clan Oracle, Hywel, was unable to See what was to come.

A few days later, while the metalsmitch, Caldera was checking out a nearby underwater volcano where she planned to set up shop, she discovered two eggs. Finding them strange (as she’d never seen the likes of which before), she brought them to the clan’s Alchemist. While Palus might not have been the best at her job, she was the closest thing Lamaris had to a scientist since Ywene had been killed.

Fully expecting them to be dead eggs, Palus started to experiment upon them.

Little did she realize that what dwelt with in them had not passed from this life, but was sleeping. And soon, they would awaken.
