Biography
Exiled Ember
”I only know one thing.... a song.”
Grief was found as an egg by Whirlpool, who was in a new spot and came across a large red egg. She picked it up, figuring it was long abandoned, and resurfaced. The blue imperial brought the egg back to the cult, and explained everything she knew: not much. One by one, the elemental representatives (and Vortex, the main water user) used their powers to try and revive it. About halfway down the list was Pyrite, who successfully got the egg to crack with a stream of fire. Excited, the higher-ups watched Pyrite’s magical fire aid the hatchling until it was fully out.
The fact that it was a banescale was not very welcome to the resident gaolers, Serendibite and Shadowseer. The two demanded that the cursed thing be disposed of. A banescale shouldn’t exist: they’re extinct, killed off for nearly melting the entirety of Icewarden’s territory long ago! There was no way a banescale - especially one with such a strange element - would reside safely with them. To appease the demands of the two ancients, Freezerius and Coalasko agreed. Clematis did as well, but only because she didn’t want to make the gaolers mad.
As a result, the hatchling Grief was thrown back outside into the snow. (WIP)
Grief named himself after a line from the song that he remembered. He holds the Serpent’s Children to their past mistakes of throwing him out into the cold. Grief hopes that one day, he will learn why those large, furry dragons hate him so much at first glance, and why his arcane blood was revived by the warmth of magical fire.

Inferno is Grief’s companion of sorts, similar to Strife and Retribution. While it cannot speak or move its post, Inferno is capable of bending their ‘metal’ candleholders and magical blue fire to mimic draconic facial expressions. Grief usually keeps Inferno in his den, but occasionally carries it outside of the tent to see the snowy woods. The two appear to be quite attached. Inferno was found when the two banescales were scouting some abandoned beastclan ruins that had been raided semi-recently by a group of poorly molded nocturnes. Grief had taken pity on the strange magical ‘item’ due to its expressions, and since Strife was friends with a sentient spear, she didn’t dare object. The two later discovered that Inferno was sentient similar to Retribution, just incapable of communicating in common draconian. With some trouble, the two banescales and Retribution managed to translate out Inferno’s name, and its gratitude for being rescued.
