Vesta

When Vesta hatched, she could sense two things, an explosion of light, and heat. Lots of heat. Thousands of tiny bodies criss crossed against her shiny new scales. The heat got hotter, and Vesta screamed. The tiny bodies were lifting themselves up effortlessly, turning towards the sky, like a machine. The head was so unbearable, Vesta knew she must follow. But her hatch-mates were suffocating her, stepping on her as they prepared to take their first flight. A new sensation washed over Vesta, something liquidy and hot. Lava! It whipped past her face, she let out a yelp of pain as the lava tore into her scales, leaving a scarred mess of scarred skin. Why where the others not scared. This fear gave Vesta a boost of strength, she tore upwards towards the light, lava filled the cavern. It lapped at her talons. Her face screamed in pain as it still took in the shock of the burn. Not long now, she thought. Soon she would be free.
