Biography
He loved the swamp. It was his home, but he was always glad for visitors. They came in small tribes, carrying odd instruments which made clicking sounds and the occasional flash of light.
The swamp monster was as fascinated by his visitors as they were by him.
When they noticed him, they let out squeals and loudly assembled closer to the shoreline. They appeared afraid of the water and never ventured into the pool. Some waded out into the marsh, although they never made it very far. Others would float helplessly on the water’s surface in large hollow baskets.
CLICK! CLICK! The visitors seemed to chatter among themselves. Their chattering rose to a crescendo that sent other smaller, weaker creatures in the vicinity fleeing.
If he hadn’t been so curious, the noise might have driven him away too.
But since they only made such sounds when he presented himself, he felt humbled. They were there to see him!
He enthusiastically risen and had started gliding over to his guests, when the visitors began to leave.
What a shame! If only they could’ve stayed longer. He sunk back into the swamp, and as the darkness engulfed his unblinking eyes, he knew the visitors would return.
Next time he would be sure to surprise them!
