N A X X ' R O T H A THE IN-BETWEEN ONE He is not alive. He is not dead. Naxx'Rotha does not speak of the reason for this, but it is clear that he sacrificed much to drive...something back from whence it came. He is not always solid, flickering in and out of existence occasionally. He never tells anyone where he goes when he disappears. Perhaps he is trapped between two worlds? Perhaps one day he won't come back. Whatever the answer is, he seems to live with his foot in some kind of door.

Naxx'Rotha is not exactly a solid being. He isn't your classic ghost: you can't see through him. He appears to be there. If he stays still for long enough any passing dragon would think he is some old fossil from years long gone, but he is very much...well, he is as alive as he can be. Don't ask him why. It isn't a sensitive topic for him per se, but there is something in the truth that puts everyone else in danger. Perhaps it's possible to open the door the rest of the way. Who knows.

What is known for sure is that Naxx'Rotha is, in fact, dead, and he has been for some time. He can manipulate his surroundings as any other dragon can, but he can also slip through walls, floors, boulders, and any other object that would normally be in his way. While he definitely makes an effort to do so, Naxx'Rotha can't really live a normal life on account of being...visibly dead. Stares, screams, and fleeing bystanders are a regular occurrence in his life, but that strangely hasn't spurred him to keep to himself.

Naxx'Rotha is a shield. He is Sornieth's greatest warrior, and no one knows it. His task is thankless, but also infinitely rewarding because the beautiful home he loves so dearly gets to exist because of him. He will stand guard against The Never-Was until the end of days if he must, but perhaps it will grow bored and ravage some other, hopefully, uninhabited planet. He watches grimly as the world turmoils over the Plague Heralds, for he cannot leave his post to help. Because there are worse things. Much, much worse.
