He Who Stalks the Desert Nights

The sands still carry the warmth of the sun even as its light fades away and the river of stars slowly wink into existence in the clear desert sky. The chill of the desert night sets in as he slides down the slope of a dune circling back to the oasis just as the last of the sun's light bleeds from the sky and finally disappears. The oasis is not much. Just a few low-laying hardy desert shrubs and a couple of date palms hidden in the lee of a sandstone outcropping. The sand is scuffed up and scratched where he and one of his siblings had dug up the precious spring and reburied it just the night before, though the sand has long since dried under the terrible heat of the sun.

Dyeus carefully stalked around the small oasis checking for any unwary vermin or serpents that might have snuck into the oasis while he slept during the heat of the day. He would leave the dates to be harvested by one of his siblings who would trade them at the market for dried meat or other essentials. He quickly snaps up a Viperpillar hidden in one of the palms before setting out toward the next oasis in his circuit, his path guided by the stars.
