Biography

ASHEN DEMON The moment the Prince and his retainers heard about the incident in the Ashfall Waste, they'd packed up and hurried over. Being neighbors with Fire had its benefits-- ensuring that they were able to come away with two eggs. One of them had been fine. The other... They'd realized, upon returning home, the cold, lifeless feeling of the egg, the hairline crack down one of the sides. It seemed the cold had gotten to this one, after all. As Red took hold of it, however, it suddenly seemed to come to life- one wiggle, followed by another, and then the shell came apart, and what was most definitely a living banescale tumbled out. ⁂ As a hatchling, Byleth never cried or giggled. He was quiet, complacent, and concerningly taciturn. He showed little desire to play with other hatchlings, and was somewhat difficult to care for on account of his refusal to complain when he needed something. To add to his abnormality, it turned out that he had an enormous appetite, not satisfied until he'd had thrice as much as any normal hatchling could possibly fit. Despite his strange, antisocial behaviour, he attached himself quickly to Red, and spent most of his hatchlinghood following quietly behind him. ⁂ Byleth carries most of his oddities into adulthood. He's still incredibly quiet-- he speaks very rarely, only when spoken to and only what's necessary. He emotes even less. Few see him do anything more than furrow his brows, and most cannot ever recall him smiling. From the day he was hatched, Byleth has never cried. He moves like a ghost, quickly and quietly, and keeps mostly to himself. Though most people wouldn't be able to tell you what they are, Byleth does have a number of interests and hobbies. He greatly enjoys fishing, and will often spend hours at a time at the water's edge, fishing away and immediately eating his catches. (His appetite only increased with age-- it's astounding the amount that he can pack away without trouble.) On rainy days, Byleth stays in and studies. He'll read anything he can get his claws on, drinking in all the information he can. He vastly prefers non-fiction to fiction, as his primary desire is to learn. While he quietly enjoys fishing and reading and eating, his primary love is the study of warfare. His quiet demeanor thinly disguises a viciously competent fighter, skilled in a wide variety of weapons and magic. While Byleth performs best with a sword, he can also make ample use of a spear, a bow, or just his own body. His battles are much like his conversations-- carried out quietly and evenly. He does not boast over victories, nor mourn over fallen enemies. He fells his enemies with quiet, calculated grace, never once flinching or second-guessing. This calmly macabre demeanor is what earned him the alias 'Ashen Demon' to begin with. The implications don't seem to bother Byleth in the slightest, but then again, nothing really does. |
