Verkir has been gone for six years. Lost forever, taken against his will and exalted to a deity he did not revere. His absence was a hole in the very foundation of the Mordraci clan.

Then, Kugohl and Ivera's world was rocked as they watched one of their latest clutch tumble forth from his egg. His blue scales and black wings (though a bit darker than the original's) brought to mind the son they had lost. He was Verkir's spitting image.

"He returns," came a rasp from the deepest shadows of the Nesting Grounds. Glowing green eyes peered from the gloom, and Mentkrah prowled into view. Her eyes studied the little Mirror, still glistening from hatching.

"How?" Kugohl asked, not needing to wonder about who Mentkrah was talking about. Ivera was frozen as if trapped in amber, staring at the hatchling.

"The Mother sent him home." Mentkrah slunk past the two dragons, heading for the exit tunnel. "I will tell Laeti."
