He awoke in a vast darkness, surrounded by emptiness. It was his fiery breath that ignited the stars. The flapping of his mighty wings spreading them through the cosmos. He observed his creation in solitude, not knowing how long he spent alone.

But there, in a small patch of stars, lay a tiny golden glimmer he'd had no hand in making. It was an infant dragon, not unlike himself, but the hatchling shone with a golden light and trailed dust wherever he went. This tiny hatchling was time itself, his growth marking the ages the two spent together.

This time he awoke to a rumble. Something, someone had aroused him from sleep. He shook, the dust of the ages falling from his scales as he walked out into a world he had not seen in eons.

Many moons before he had shaped the stars themselves, but the stars no longer needed him. He was their father, but they did not need a caretaker. The same had been true for all of his siblings. They were the Old Gods, the beings that had shaped the cosmos and order of everything. But when the world of Sornieth had begun to shaped itself they were unneeded.

True, the Shade had been an issue. But in the grand scheme of the universe it was not but a minor inconvenience. After it had been dealt with and the dragons that shaped the world had decided to slumber he too came to the same conclusion, but for different reason.

Gathering his siblings, they constructed their resting place deep in a dark wood they thought would leave them undisturbed. Over time, it seemed, beings had gained knowledge of them from their primitive ancestors and built the grand temple. Though it too was eventually lost to the ages...

So why now?

The answer, it turned out, was a tiny blue dragon looking up at him with fearful eyes.

He looked at the little one and bade him not to be frightened. After his introduction the little thing spoke with a fearful voice. "What will you do now?"

There was a moment of contemplation as he thought of what could possibly be next for them. "We will make this place our home. Will you join us?"

"I will."
