Background
A middle-aged Imperial, old by the standards of other breeds, pat the young Nocturne on the head as he helped roll up the scrolls. The Imperial was a poet and lyricist and loved Calliope dearly. For Calliope was a dragon borne of ink, the embodiment of his creations and his muse. Unfortunately, the Tangled Wood was not always the kindest place and not everyone loved his Imperial master as readily as Calliope did. One day, using the shroud of darkness and clap of thunder to hide themselves, a pack of dragons slunk into their den and murdered Calliope's master. Frightened and trembling, he hid under his master's worn desk and, when the opportunity presented itself, he fled. It was hard to fly and breathe when crying. He kept thinking about how he should've stayed, how he'd promised to stay forever, to never leave, that they would be together always. . . He flew for the rest of the night with tears blurring his sight.
When he woke the next morning, he thought, for a brief bright
moment, that his master had come to get him. However, the back of the Imperial he was riding was far too pale and was oddly covered in stones. "It's alright, child," soothed the slow, feminine voice of the walking Imperial. "You'll be safe with us." He glanced around at the surrounding caravan he hadn't noticed before, at the vast variety of dragons. He couldn't seem to raise the panic that was probably suitable at that moment. It felt like he'd used up all his misery the night before. Now, he was just tired. "Where are you taking me?"

"Back home," the Imperial answered. "To the joining of the
great river and the Tsunami Flats." I flew all the way to the Sea?

"How far back is the Tangled Wood?"

"The Woods?" He watched the back of her head tilt as she
thought for a moment. "About 40 miles northeast of here, we're in the light Ruins now. Why?" She turned her head to look at him, "Is that where you're from, child?" She paused her lumbering walk to really look at him. "I can send someone to help you get back," she offered softly. Her pale green eye stared steadily into his. The stones even speckled her cheeks. He lowered his gaze to his paws, noticing for the first time the dried remnants of blood on his talons. He shook his head.

As she resumed her walking, the young Noc turned his head to
look back at the only home he'd known and now could no longer see. Closing his eyes, he curled up on the Imperial's back and went back to sleep.

Personality & Relations
Calliope did not speak for four months after he was found by Shijie and joined the clan and it was a right awful conundrum trying to figure out what to do with him. Virgo had a new hatchling taking up her time, Tsunami and Navara had far too much to do, Abutilon didn't do kids outside of his own, the entire Coven was completely unreliable, Valin and Boamal weren't ready for kids, and of course the Mystics were completely out of the question. The thought on everyone's mind was whether or not to trust him to Maulum's Den. They were good dragons but were they hatchling-raising good dragons? Eventually the Mystics determined that Maulum's place was the lesser of many evils and requested Maulum take Calliope, which he of course did. It wasn't smooth sailing at first. Calliope didn't speak and some of the Nocts in the Den didn't approve of the new addition. Eventually, they all settled down and the quiet, creative dragonet was welcomed and gradually began talking again.
