Biography
Ezili THE REAPER When the dead refuse to remain that way, the members of Plague call upon Ezili. Her solemn duty is to cull the undead so that families may have closure, the victim may have peace, and that the cycle of life and death may continue as intended. |
Ezili is one in a long line of Zombie Hunters. Her ancestors fought The Abomination, and the strategies involved with annihilating the fast-spreading virus have been passed down ever since. Kalvagore is a well-kept family secret; Ezili doesn't even share her knowledge with her fellow Reavers, making her home in their territory far away from the others. She prefers solitude and peace, for the duty she fulfills offers none of it. Most of Sornieth doesn't know what causes these outbreaks - but they don't need to. They know the important rules, set by her family, enforced by herself:
1: Do not touch the infected. Leave the area immediately. Evacuate any civilizations within a forty-mile radius.
2: Immediately send word to a member of the Deathbane Clan.
3: DO. NOT. TOUCH. THE. INFECTED.
Curiously, Kalvagore isn't the only cause of undeath. Meddling with old magic, forbidden things, and the like, plenty of dragons become Liches, or Revenants, etcetera. While less dangerous than the shambling monstrosities Kalvagore raises up, they're all the same to Ezili. She takes personal offense to the undead that roam the world, upsetting the balance of life and death. Many plead with her to let them live. They offer wealth. Power. Trinkets. Ezili does not want these things. Ezili wants order. A proud Plague patriot, Ezili revels in the actions of upholding the laws of nature. She adores the idea of dying someday - old, weakening, but because she survived that long. Being Plague is cherishing the action of overcoming astronomical odds. Being Plague is also, however, knowing when to return to the earth. Knowing when it is time to rest. She single-handedly prevents another Abomination incident from occurring on her daily rounds, expertly dispatching her prey with targeted, high-intensity fire.
Ezili is aware that she may be infected already. But since the virus is inactive until death, she does not let herself worry about it. Her family knows the risks, and she knows her body. The Rot Reavers have been instructed to burn her to ash immediately should she ever die in battle; as far as they know, she suffers a family curse that brings undeath - which is more or less the truth. The day she feels herself slowing down from old age, she will return to her family's home territory immediately. She will dig the ceremonial burn pit herself, and fill it with her prized possessions. And when she feels herself slipping away, she will curl up in the center, ready for the next plane of existence. Her family will burn her body, and all her things. They will cover the pit, and a garden will be cultivated over it. Such is the way of her culture. Life, death, new life. Over, and over, and over.
"Death comes for us all. It is an insult to cheat him. Dying of old age, or in the glory of battle, is a life well spent. Do not slight the balance for your own selfish wants."
