Ourense

Though he found his guardian charge quite young, when Ourense first stumbled into the clan, they believed him to still be on Search. In fact, the hatchling was fleeing the Lightning Flight to protect his charge, for the mysterious red gemstone he carried, half-buried in a coating of stone, glowed so much with heat and light that the engineers there had wanted to use it as a power source. Afraid it would be damaged, he sought shelter with the Light dragons of the clan, for while they sought knowledge he hoped that they wouldn't damage his charge to do it. Calabar and Mbaiki were naturally sympathetic, and Ourense has become a member of the clan's inner circle as he's grown and matured. He has also begun helping Diepdale train the younger dragons in the art of combat.

As befits his birth flight, Ourense is quick and decisive, preferring the potential errors of swift action to the potential damage of contemplative delay. He's not a big thinker, though that doesn't mean he's stupid; he's good at quickly taking in a situation and making an intuitive decision. This attitude does not make him patient, though, and he's not willing to sit around while other people are devising plans or working up their courage. He'd rather deal with the aftereffects of a disaster than play a long waiting game to set things up just right. Not much of a talker, he prefers actions to words, and he also doesn't like long, delaying conversations. When he does speak, he's gruff, but never rude unless provoked--he doesn't have patience for misbehavior, either, but he has a soft spot for hatchlings and the very timid and will do his best to stretch his patience out for them. If he fails, he'll just pat or nudge them and walk away so that he won't be tempted to snap at them. Despite his preference for speed and activity, he does know how to take his leisure, and spends a lot of time every day tending to and checking on his charge.

He is regularly touched by and grateful for his mate, Talca, who is in perfect sympathy with his preference for physical rather than verbal expression and his desire for decisiveness, and who helps him guard his gem. He has also developed a friendship with Diepdale, his fellow hatchling trainer, and has a certain older-male comaradeship with Maracay. He quite enjoys Rakiyat and Fes' company, and often goes to visit them. Given his lack of patience for shenanigans, though, he doesn't get along with many of the younger and more mischevious members of the clan.
