aesculapian is quite the interesting character. they can be quite driven and passionate, and they are very smart. however, they tend to use this motivation and intelligence for... odd things. as the crew's doctor, they're able to use their small size and nimble claws to be great at everything from fixing up small wounds to performing large-scale surgery. while their talents lie in healing, the whole crew knows that their interest lies in something more along the lines of mad science.

thanks to their work as a doctor, aesculapian has a great understanding of life, biology, and dragon anatomy. however, they don't have a great conception of morals or the laws of nature, and when left unchecked this knowledge can be used for some very... interesting experiments. they toy with life itself, and attempt to change dragons' physiology and even create brand new life. luckily for the crew, most of their experiments fail, and their occasional successful creation tends to be harmless, if not beneficial to them. so, despite its moral ambiguity, they let aesculapian continue their experiments.

two of their most successful experiments are basidium and barathea, their two successful attempts at creating life. aesculapian considers them to be their children, and the two consider them their parent. their relationship is a little unorthodox, but they love each other nonetheless. aesculapian occasionally still attempts at making life, but now mostly works on smaller things like giving dragons extra eyes or changing their breed.

name means "relating to medicine or physicians," as well as referring to a type of snake. song lyrics from necromancin' dancin' by bear ghost.
