Lucious is one of those unfortunate individuals involved into bizzare experiments of Light dragons. However, the one performed on Lucious wasn't brutal or traumatizing - it was just strange. Since he was born, he was kept underground - and not being aware of it. Lucious was a subject for chronobiology, a field that examines periodic phenomena in living organisms and their adaptation to solar- and lunar-related rhythms - but without letting him see those.
He had everything he needed - entertainment, great food, communication - everything but freedom. It's not like he wished for it - was hard to wish for something he never knew, after all - but somehow Lucious always felt incomplete. Staying in his underground den with no natural light affected him in lots of ways: with no chores he has all the time in the world to develop his mind and is quite cunning, sarcastic and crafty. However, it also made him slightly deranged - Lucious' sleeping schedule is absolutely wild, lack of oxygen often gives him headaches, and his feathers, as time passed, altered to the color of deep starry sky - even if Lucious can't recognize it.
