Biography
To some, Hera might be alarming. Frazzled fur, fastigiate horns, ever curious constricted eyes focusing on every detail of a new body, and internal bones so terribly hidden by an ethereal presence.
Hera is a companion of Caru, helping those remember themselves before attempting to cross the underworld. Before the underworld, you see, creatures become ethereal versions of themselves. Same features, same body, same thoughts and mind, though more... transparent, in all ways. As one ages post-death, they lose conscious memory of their former selves. Where had they visited? Who had they loved? What had they looked like? This would lead to disappearance of self. The visiting souls would slowly forget their age prior to death, height, hair color, all continuing until they appeared nothing more than a phantom or blurred, suggested shape of a humanoid.
At this stage, Hera would step in. With her ever faithful bone-priest companion, Hera would help reconstruct these memories in a stew made of memories, dirt and water from the passing river. Reconstruction would not be perfect, but it is enough to convince Charu to lead the souls towards the other side.
Some souls may not be so lucky, and their truly forgotten selves serve as another prong on her or her bone priest's set of (constantly shed) horns.
