Biography

Malacadre
Imperator the Third
Captive Emperor

In the bowels of the Shadeveil Sanctum—tunnels dug deep, deep, and deeper still by the clan's Ridgebacks, deep enough to evade the prying eyes of the gods themselves—through reinforced gate after reinforced gate, atrocities lurk or, in some cases, are confined. Entry and even knowledge of this area is restricted among the clan, and those with clearance to know about it would hesitate to step foot there. Some of the things down there...they're not dragons—not anymore. That is, if they ever were at all.

There are abominations aplenty throughout the complex, but the very deepest reaches contain the worst of them: those unnatural disasters, those affronts to the Lightweaver—the Emperors. Luminax was the first in the modern era, but it is not the only one.

--

Malacadre is an Emperor formed of just three dead Imperials, but it smells like a mountain of them. The Imperial from which Malacadre formed its primary head—and which provided much of Malacadre's body mass—was a Plague dragon deeply touched by the flight's deity, so this particular Emperor would likely offend two gods at once.

The few Plague dragons among the Shadeveil who know of the clan's captive Emperors believe Malacadre is a sign of the Plaguebringer's superiority: so mighty is she that her virulence transcends death, causing adaptation and change even in the unliving flesh of an Emperor. What appear to be growths on the Emperor itself, however, are merely outcroppings of independent organisms feeding off the Emperor's biomass and potent reserves of magic.

Despite the misinterpretation of what truly is happening within the body of Malacadre, the Emperor has still proven immensely valuable to the Shadeveil Plague dragons. Many of the microorganisms that coat Malacadre's hide have been found nowhere else, and—perhaps due to feeding off an incredible source of Plague magic—they are extremely infectious and prone to advantageous mutation.
