I wake up and rub my aching head. I can’t remember last night’s party but it must have been a blast, according to my intense headache. As I get to my feet I hear footsteps.

Now, nobody lives near enough to me that I can hear them, so that means that someone’s in my residence.

I get up and race as quickly and quietly to where I think the sound is, but once I get there, I’m met with an empty space in front of my eyes. Confused, I glance around before slamming to the ground in pain, clutching my head. I’m honestly surprised that I didn’t leave twin dents in the sides of my head with all the pressure I’m applying. Eventually the pain goes away, leaving me with my head clear enough to hear more footsteps. I chase after the footsteps but am again met with empty space. Confused, I turn around and see two dragons approaching.

“And you’re sure nobody lives here?” asks a little Fae.

“Certain,” replies the Snapper beside her. “The last resident passed away last night. Sudden, brutal murder.” He clicks his tongue and shakes his head. “So sad.”

Of course, I don’t understand a word of what they’re saying until they pass through me.
