I’m Crake! I’m not contagious, I promise, I promise. Can’t help it; that’s the infection. It’s always been there. I can deal with it. I fit in here, the Scarred Wasteland, right? I think I do! Maybe. A little. Lots of sick dragons around here. I’m not sick, you know, but I look it, I really look it. That’s fine! But I get tired. I promise I’m not infectious. I’m infected.
I’ve always got to keep these membranes moving, see, or—ha, would you look at that, my tail’s gone stiff! You [sound of water bottle being crushed] you hear that? That’s what happens if I’m not careful! Got to start every day with a big shaky routine. I look “spastic” and “rabid.” Ha!
Believe it or not, though, I’m calm. Really! Really. I’m so used to talking and moving this way because I have to. Everyone assumes I’m an anxious little thing, like I’m a spiral on a sugar high. But I’m not! If I wanted to, I could talk in monotone the whole time, but I don’t want to. If I’m actually talking to someone, I’ll make it exciting. And that’s that! I’m much more relaxed than most dragons, I know for a fact. They wish they could have my control!

Suffering from a rare infection, Crake was a transplant from the Scarred Wastelands approved by queen Eo herself. He suffers from a rare infection that causes a membrane to grow over his scales, causing them to crack and bleed should he stay still long enough. He is covered in bandages and constantly moving, quick to assure anyone that his unique appearance is nothing to fear. He insists that though some infected have been known to have bursts of violence, he wouldn’t even harm a mith! He’s never alone by choice, always choosing to immerse himself with other tasks around the grounds. If you ask, it’s because he’s the friend everyone needs, but the truth is he can’t be left alone with his thoughts. The infection pulses through him and with it comes a darkness he’s not ready to face.
