WD: Windflower Definitions

There are many ways to categorise the dragons of Flight Rising, and many ways to describe your dragon's appearance. Many terms are used in near similar ways, and this is basically our way of interpreting these and defining our own standards and categories. I will begin by clearing a few things:

Breeding Hubs and Associations are usermade treads mainly focusing on breeding and selling of a certain set of colours. Goals of certain colour coordination, breeds, genes and eyes are higher tiers or goals for players to aim at because they are or used to be hard to fulfill. Some hubs and associations have genes as the basic requirement and have colours and the rest as further tiers. Many have cool badges you can use, but be sure to read the rules before using them! Some hubs dictate you have to be a registered member to use their badges, and as most old tread owners don't follow up any more, it is thus impossible for new members to get registered and thus they can't use the badges.

Subspecies are even more specific and often describe a limited set of colours, genes, breeds and eyes. They often contain lore about the subspecies' origin and common hoards and traits of its species. The Windflower has discovered a few subspecies troughout the years, and even more have been imported from elsewhere. You can find the full overview of our subspecies in our hatchery.

Legacy lore are when only offspring of a certain dragon are allowed to wear a certain usermade set of lore. In many ways it is similar to a subspecies because it dictates behavious and origin, but it differs because sometimes only lineage is required. Other times there are additional requirements like a level restriction in order to count as a true descendant.

XXX, or triples, are defined by the developers of Flight Rising as dragons who have the exact same colour as their primay, secondary and tertiary colour.

XXY, often called doubles, are defined by the developers of Flight Rising as dragons who have the exact same colour as their primay and secondary colour. The tertiary is a different colour.

XYX, often also called doubles, are defined by the developers of Flight Rising as dragons who have the exact same colour as their primay and tertiary colour. The secondary is a different colour.

XYY, often also called doubles, are defined by the developers of Flight Rising as dragons who have the exact same colour as their secondary and tertiary colour. The primary is a different colour.

XYZ are defined by the developers of Flight Rising as dragons who have all different colours as their primay, secondary and tertiary colour.

Colour band refers to a specific colour range that is often associated with a specific flight, like the blue-range colours ranging from storm to caribbean that match water's eye colours the best. If you pass unto teal, it's in the turquoise range and match better with lightning eyes. However, sometimes the best looking eye colour is one that contrasts or compliments the dragon's colours, so don't feel flight-bound to only breed dragons of your flight's colour band.

Gen. 1, 1st Gen,. G1... There are many names for a dragon who does not have any parents. You can win them fully gened from Roundsey's Raffles, or hatch them from unhatched eggs you get from chests, scavenging, coliseum fighting and brewing. Your first 2 dragons ever are also Gen. 1 and are often referred to as your custom and random progenitors.

Gene sets are primary and secondary genes who belong together. Examples are Tiger/Stripes and Crystal/Facet. Genes in gene sets have the same rarity.

From here on we will move to our own definitions. We will make our own badges - who will include "WD" for Windflower Definitions. These badges will be free to use in the biography of any dragon you own who follours our descriptions as long as you link back here! You are allowed to resize the badges. I plan to make recolours of my own badges so they fit dragons of all colours. This has annoyed me with previous badges.

As almost all the terms are usermade I am free to make my own categories and definitions, though I will try to describe and link to any sources I have used to compile my inspirations and reasons. Non-WD badges shown here are for user information only, and I will link back to their origin as best as I can. I guess no one can complain if you really like a badge and makes a slightly different badge inspired by it.

Colour Coordination
Basically I have expanded the terminology for XXX, XXY, XYX, XYY and XYZ and turned each into several categories depending on the number of genes and overall matchyness. The coodrinated badges are hard to get. Feel free to ask me if you wonder what badge you should use! There has been several hubs for these categories troughout the years, and keeping a tab on whose badges were free to use and whose you could only use if you were a registered member is a true hazzle.

A1. Standard XXX
Any XXX dragon. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

A2. Coordinated XXX
A XXX dragon whose accent coolours harmonise with each other and the dragon's eyes. You only get the second star if the primary and secondary genes harmonise even though they are not of the same set. The dragon must be triple gened.

B1. Standard XXY
Any XXY dragon. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

B2. Close XXY
A XXY dragon whose tertiary colour is within the same colour range as the primary and secondary colours. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

B3. Coordinated XXY
A XXY dragon whose accent coolours harmonise with each other and the dragon's eyes. You only get the second star if the primary and secondary genes harmonise even though they are not of the same set. The dragon must be triple gened.

C1. Standard XYX
Any XXY dragon. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

C2. Close XYX
A XYX dragon whose secondary colour is within the same colour range as the primary and tertiary colours. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

C3. Coordinated XYX
A XYX dragon whose accent coolours harmonise with each other and the dragon's eyes. You only get the second star if the primary and secondary genes harmonise even though they are not of the same set. The dragon must be triple gened.

D1. Standard XYY
Any XYY dragon. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

D2. Close XYY
A XYY dragon whose primary colour is within the same colour range as the secondary and tertiary colours. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

D3. Coordinated XYY
A XYY dragon whose accent coolours harmonise with each other and the dragon's eyes. You only get the second star if the primary and secondary genes harmonise even though they are not of the same set. The dragon must be triple gened.

E1. Standard XYZ
Any XYZ dragon. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

E2. Close XYZ
A XYZ dragon whose colours are within the same colour range. The number of stars indicate the number of overall genes.

E3. Coordinated XYZ
A XYZ dragon whose accent coolours harmonise with each other and the dragon's eyes. You only get the second star if the primary and secondary genes harmonise even though they are not of the same set. The dragon must be triple gened.

I am aware these are a lot of categories. It is often easier to simply use standard badges, but the rest are for those who wish to pay attention to details. I personally favourize coordinated XYZ because they are often unique and difficult to obtain, which gives extra satisfaction when completed.

Pastel dragons
Originally there were the pastel breeders hub. They defined a neat array of colours that were acceptable as pastels. However, with an increasing amount of genes there are some pastel colours who appear too dark or too radiant with some genes to be called truly pastel any more. This goes the other way as well, with originally medium dark colours appearing as pastel in certain genes. We also have the gene stained who can completely alter a primary and secondary genes's colour depending on the tertiary. We have therefore created 4 categories:

A. Pastel Appearance
These dragons have colours who express a pastel look. The number of stars indicate the number of pastel colours expressed.

B. Shrouded Pastels
These dragons have colours who would appear pastel if they were basic, but due to their gene they appear darker. The number of stars indicate the number of pastel colours obscured by genes.

C. Amplified Colours
These dragons have colours who would appear pastel if they were basic, but due to their gene they appear too vibrant. The number of stars indicate the number of pastel colours enhanced by genes.

D. Altered Pastels
This category is for stained dragons only. These dragons' primary and secondary would either have appeared as pastel had their tertiary gene not been stained, or only appear as pastel because of their stained gene. With other words this goes both ways.

Here is a list of the colours I categorize as pastel if they were basic (visual list). As for appearance, any colour who appears as light or lighter than these will be accepted as appearing as a pastel. Also, because we have category B, C and D there is no longer any reason to call a dragon pastel because of it's base when it actually don't look pastel in reality. I am aware screen calibration will pay a part, and a dragon who appears as pastel on one screen may appear slightly too dark or bright on another screen. We just have to live with this, so don't go poke an angry finger in someone's face if they just barely passed your line of what you call pastel. I have seen a ton of users who call dragons with banana lionfish a pastel when it in actuality looks more like an eyeburner.

Dark Dragons
Originally there were only 4 colours who were recognised as truly dark. With the colourwheel expansion more really dark colours appeared, but theyr were somehow not truuly implemented in the terminology. Below are my categories, followed by an example that dark colours must appear darker than. The categories are the same and thus opposite of the pastel requirements.
A. Dark Appearance
These dragons have colours who express a dark look. The number of stars indicate the number of dark colours expressed.

B. Obscured Darkness
These dragons have colours who would appear dark if they were basic, but due to their gene they appear lighter. The number of stars indicate the number of dark colours obscured by genes.

C. Enhanced Colours
These dragons have colours who would appear dark if they were basic, but due to their gene they appear too vibrant. The number of stars indicate the number of dark colours enhanced by genes.

D. Altered Darkness
This category is for stained dragons only. These dragons' primary and secondary would either have appeared as dark had their tertiary gene not been stained, or only appear as dark because of their stained gene. With other words this goes both ways.

Here is a list of the colours I categorize as darkj if they were basic (visual list). As for appearance, any colour who appears as dark or darker than these will be accepted as appearing as truly dark. Genes who often makes dark colours appear bright are (examples).

Pastel Goth
These dragons appear creepy and cute, and have at least one seemingly dark and one seemingly pastel colour. The original hub have really cute badges for their categories and I recommend checking it out.

A. Double Pastel
These dragons express one dark and two pastel colours. The stars indicate the placement of the colours.

B. Double Dark
These dragons express one pastel and two dark colours. The stars indicate the placement of the colours.

C. Trickshot
These dragons express one dark and one pastel colour as well as one colour outside these categories.

Eyeburners
Basically dragons with colours so bright they hurt to look at. Bold, bright and neon are the choice words here. Black and White are only used rarly to amplify the effect. Bright genes who express even more eye hurting accent colours are a big plus.

A. Blinding Brightness
These dragons hurt to look at because they express too strong colours. They must have 3 brightly expressed colours to get this badge!

B. Confusing Fusion
These dragons hurt to look at because of their horrifying mixture of brightly patterned genes. They must have 3 brightly expressed colours to get this badge!

C. Matchy Mismatch
These eye hurting dragons have one very dark or very light contrasting colour. The remaining 2 colours must be brightly expressed.

Here is a list of the colours I categorize as eyeburning even if they are basic (visual list). But as mentioned in the pastel chapter, genes may change the appearance completely.

Neon Wings
These dragons express a combination of dark or light coloured bodies with neon or eyeburning wings. They also focus on the genes shimmer and alloy.

A. Standard
Any dragon who express a dark or pastel primary along with a neon secondary colour. The dragon must be triple gened.

B. Advanced
Any XYY dragon who express a dark or pastel primary along with a neon secondary and tertiary colour. The dragon must be triple gened.

C. Extreme
Any XYY dragon who express a black range or white range primary along with a neon secondary and tertiary colour. The dragon must be triple gened and have eyes matching the secondary and tertiary colour.

There used to be badges in the original hub for collecting a pair of extreme neon wings with each tertiary gene, and for collecting extreme pairs of all elements, and extreme reversed pairs of each elements. Reversed pairs were XYY dragons with colourful primaries and white range or dark range secondaries and tertiaries. I hope to one day make this as well. There exist a hub specifically for X/white/white dragons.

Snowbellies
Despite being a favourite hub of mine, I always found the badge system unneccessary. Snowbellies are dragons who display a seemingly white belly. This can be due to genes or the lack thereof.

A. Shining Snowbelly
The most common variant of snowbelly, these dragons have a white range tertiary gene and the genes underbelly, glimmer or sometimes capsule. The badges will name the colours, and whiter colours will have more stars.

B. Natural Snowbelly
These dragons have a primary that naturally gives the dragon a white belly.

C. Snowdown Snowbelly
These dragons have a primary that naturally gives the dragon a white belly as well as a white range tertiary that is not underbelly, glimmer or capsule.

White range tertiaries we accept as underbelly are: _________ White range tertiaries we accept as glimmer are: ____________ White range tertiaries we accept as capsule are: ______________ A small selection of primaries who often get a natural white belly depending on the genes used are: ____________.

Tuxuedo Dragons
Basically dragons who looks like they are wearing a tuxuedo. Imperial males give the best results. The gene to use here is underbelly, and for the primary and secondary we recommend subtle genes like basic, fade, blend, iridescent, shimmer, stripes and so on.

A. Classy
An XXY snowbelly dragon of the most common tuxuedo colours. This means navy, obsidian, creme, white, ... (list of colours)

B. Business
An XXY snowbelly dragon of slightly uncommon tuxuedo colours that don't draw too much attention. Dark colours, browns, greys, blues, whites, dark green.

C. Exotic
A XXY snowbelly dragon of unusual tuxuedo colours. Purples, oranges, yellows, reds, turquoises, greens and pinks are all welcome. Basically anything that doesn't fit in any other category. In this category we accept slightly more patterned genes as well, but please don't overdo it. It should be patterns you find on real suits. Gene pairs are recommended but not mandatory.

Simplistic Dragons
Basically treiple gened dragons with an elegant, soft look. Colour coordination of the "Close" category is advised, but a mixture of different pastels are also good. Don't use genes that take a lot of attention, as the focus should be the dragon's shape and colours. The main genes are basic, iridescent, shimmer, underbelly and stripes. Other genes are allowed, but recommended to keep to a minimum. Often one other gene is enough. Few pieces of apparel is also recommended for the minimalistic look.

The Ungened
Basically my take on the basic and proud theme. Please only use this on dragons you intend to keep but don't intend to gene. The stars indicate the number of basic genes on the dragon.

Purebred Dragons
Being a "pure" means that the dragon display the same trait as both parents. It could be that both parents are tundras, and if so the offspring is a purebred tundra. If both parents display the circuit gene, the offspring is a purebred circuit dragon. If both parents have primal lightning eyes and happen to hatch an offspring with primal lightning eyes, that offspring is a pure primal dragon.

A. Purebred Breed
The offspring is the same breed as both parents. The stars indicate for how many generations this has been passed down. The big star is for when the dragons and all its ancestors back to the original first generation dragons are of the same breed.

B. Purebred Gene
The offspring display the same gene(s) as both parents. The stars indicate for how many generations this has been passed down. The big star is for when the dragons and all its ancestors back to the original first generation dragons display the same gene(s).

C. Purebred Element
The offspring display the same element as both parents. The stars indicate for how many generations this has been passed down. The big star is for when the dragons and all its ancestors back to the original first generation dragons display the same element.

D. Naturally Purebred Eyes
The offspring display the exact same eye type as both parents. The stars indicate for how many generations this has been passed down. The big star is for when the dragons and all its ancestors back to the original first generation dragons display the same eye type. Please note that all this must be NATURALLY inherited. Using an eye vial to make the offspring match the parents voids this badge.

Makeover
A dragon gets a makeover when you change a basic aspect like its breed, genes and colours or minor aspects like eyes, pose and age. The number of stars indicate how many genes have been change or how many scattersights or scatterscrolls have been used.

Holidergs
Dragons born on special dates! It's up to you to define why this date is special, so be sure to tell the world why in the dragon's biography if it's not immediately obvious! There used to be a holiday hub with fun breeding goals for those who wanted to get in then holiday spirit all year round. Sadly, many of the images there are broken and it seems like the owner has left. I'm not sure. I'll make my own holiday hub one day.

badges: Special date dragon, 1st Jan, 14th valentines, mother's father's days, birthdays, national days, fastelavn, st. patricks, april 1st, FR birthday, easter, leap day, halloween, christmas, chinese new year, summner/winter solstice, st. hans, thanksgiving, earth day and so on. I mean, there is even a day dedicated to pirates, waffles, fantasy, star wars (may 4th) and almost everything else.

Fandragons
Maybe everyone's favourite because this category is huge. It simply contain any dragon that is named after or looks like a character, item or phenomena from fantasy or real life. It can be your chickensmoothie character, someone from a movie, book, anime or it can be a lookalike from something in the real world like a plant, food or an animal. It is limitless. The fandom momentum can be a dragon's looks, backstory or personality. There are some categories just for fun, and some dragons may find themselves in several categories! That means you can use your favourite badge or all of them! I strongly encourage reference images in the dragon's biography!

A. FR Fandragons
Dragons imposing as NPCs, familiars or items of Flight Rising, like Joxar, a glowing pocket mouse or a watermelon. It can also be your flight representative.

B. Animals and Plants
This dragon is inspired by a mammal, fish, bird, insect, amphibium, reptile, or bacteria, trees, bushes, flowers, mushrooms and herb from real life. It can be an existing species or be extinct. Try your best to make it look realistic!

C. Food
Cakes, candy, drinks and dishes are all welcome in this category. Feel free to bake and shake your way trough and make your dragons look delicious.

D. Geography, Mythology and Weather
Some dragons are named after mountains, mummies, tornadoes, volcanoes, rivers and gods of all mythologies. This is the domain of real and imagined locations and deities!

E. Fandom Universe
Anime, mange, manwah, books, comics, series, movies and video games. Go wild with abilities, pets, main characters and the lesser known ones. Imagined places and shippings, worshipping of autors and voice actors are also encouraged in this category!

I. Original Characters
Bring your notebook sketches and original characters to life via the dragons of this category. They can be characters you devised from scratch, within the framework of an exisiting universe or an alternate colour/personality variants of existing characters.
