Long ago, a young archaeologist traveled to the Hewn City to study the ruins of civilizations lost to time. She found all she could have dreamed of, and with packs bursting with artifacts and journals dripping with notes, she prepared for the journey back to her clan. But something else found her first. A darkness that did not falter against the light magic that had felled so many shade-infected beasts before.
She did not make it home.

If you travel back to that ruin, you can find the remains of her expedition half-buried in the silty muck. Stone statuettes and knife handles barely poking above the soil, the soggy pulp of an unread journal strewn amongst the stones.

Her remains are still wandering, dragging themselves through the dark.
