A hatchling dark as midnight was born in the land of light. As told by the scholars of light, black is the color that absorbs all light and does not reflect it. Distraught by this, the hatchling’s parents prayed to the Lightweaver, that their son might shed light into the world instead of taking it all for himself.

That night, the parents were awoken by their son screaming in pain. As they watched in horror, his scales cracked and bright yellow light burst from inside of him. They immediately brought him to the priestess, who told them that the Lightweaver was displeased with their prayer, as She thought that any dragon that could absorb all light would be able to appreciate it more than any other. The parents wailed with grief that their son had been harmed by their irresponsible actions and gave the hatchling to the priestess, who raised him as her own until he was old enough to find his own way in the world.

The light still shines from inside him and will for the rest of his life, and his chest is in constant, burning pain. But he lives a fulfilling life to this day, having found a place in the Arcane domain, where radioactive crystals dull his pain and where he is accepted for who he is.

Solas laid on the warm stones of the Light Shrine in Clan Zenith. Panrry, the priestess, was away on business so for the time being Solas had the shrine to himself. Despite his...ah, quarrels with the Lightweaver, he felt calm in this place. Panrry, despite her faults, kept the stones clean and the sunlight from above reflected off of several hidden mirrors and was directed through prisms to dance on the walls.

The warmth felt good on Solas' scales. The light emitting from within him had no temperature, just a dull pain that rarely abated. He left frequent offerings for the Lightweaver and the Arcanist, in hopes that they might be able to ease his curse at the very least, but in lieu of an answer he only received restful sleep when near Arcane crystals and the feeling of a cool touch of a claw on his brow whenever he was near a place with a strong connection to the Lightweaver.

Solas stretched his aching limbs, silks brushing against his wings. He couldn't wear any rougher clothing than the purest, finest cloths, and Panrry continued to provide him with gold accent pieces in hopes that he might join her as a priest to Light. He declined each time. Despite asking Chianan for a job or responsibility of some kind, Chianan always seemed reluctant to oblige. He occasionally helped at the library and relic archives, but the proximity to a few powerful Light relics meant to amplify Light magic occasionally left him woozy. Still, he was glad he could help however he could.
