Biography
Coakley swept through the storm like a jagged bolt of lightning, flashing from cloud to cloud. He moved like the thunder's roar, like the swell and rip of turbulent weather. It was a crackling journey, unstoppable and all-consuming. Just the power of the storm and the pleasure of being at flight in it. Coakley felt the static in the air prickle on his skin. Blue sparks writhed across his back and tail and wings. Rain washed his face. "This is the best," he shouted over the roar of the storm, loud enough to hear himself despite the wind whipping in his ears. He swooped and dove and tumbled through the dark clouds. The world beneath him flashed past like a strange dream.
-Initial Lore
from trapperkeeper |
He is a storm-slayer who leaps like lightning and falls like rain.
Coakley is the swiftest of the Mirror Swarm, and specializes in surprise attacks, striking his foes like a bolt from the blue. However, he will usually quickly exhaust himself, and is therefore much less effective during sustained combat. When the fight is over he is skilled at chasing down and picking off stragglers if he has not exhausted himself during the battle. Rumor has it that Coakley was born out of a thundercloud, although it might be Coakley himself that started it. It's certainly the kind of thing he would say. As many rumors, though, it is neither true, nor entirely false. He has parents and a winding, unremarkable linage. He was hatched from an egg, like most dragons are... but it was in the storm that he discovered his True Self, and in that abandoned all else about Dragonhood. He became rainwater and lightning - sometimes moving with such forces he would shed around him fire and sparks. He chased after storms until nothing else was left of him. He returned to earth only after colliding with a lightning rod and being channeled to the base of it, slamming into the ground quite unexpectedly. He had mostly forgotten that the ground was a thing. The tower had been erected by Vyrobce of the Machine Faction. After the stunning return to Sorneith, Coakley was so intrigued that he decided he would stay and explore the region he had landed in. Coakley consists of numerous Lightning Stones suspended in animate rainwater and crackling energy. Those stones are congealed elemental essence and all that remains of his original body. While focused, the stones form two rows down the length of whatever shape he currently maintains. At rest they float aimlessly within their amorphous housing. Coakly's true self is contained within the Lightning Stones, and if his body is dispersed, he can reform a new body if enough of the stones remain in close proximity to each other and they are exposed to stormy weather. Coakley can choose whatever shape he likes, he is highly malleable. He keeps the shape of a Mirror most of the time, since he is in the Scarred Wasteland, and travels alongside and works with many Mirrors. For all that, Coakley maintains a largely normal, if remarkably high-energy, disposition. He is friendly and eager and enthusiastic about everything. |
