Magic corrupts.

Surely, the Rhodokhros were corrupted during their travels.

A group of Seekers, the Rhodokhros, moved northwest, following their duties to search out and contain Shade creatures. Traveling along the Ice Floes, it was not long before they came into contact with Arcane magic on the border of the Southern Icefield and Starfall Isles.

Although the biological changes that occurred in the Rhodokhros were not apparent at first, many of the Rhodokhros became drawn to arcane magic and started to wander farther into arcane territory. Some abandoned their duties as Seekers and others found themselves joining the arcane flight. Others did not experience the aforementioned change in allegiance.

Regardless, all Rhodokhros experienced the same biological change over the course of many years: their icy tertiary coloration began to fade to white and was replaced by a light rose color. Over time, the light rose coloration began to follow a more obvious pattern: a glowing imprint of their skeletal structure, coming through their skin and fur. It was even longer before some Rhodokhros experienced a final change: shards broke their skin. Although the shards look like gemstones or rock, they are actually bone, imbued with arcane magic.

Many Rhodokhros were frightened by their transformation and retreated back to the Southern Icefield, either to avoid further change or to look for a cure. Others embraced their changes wholeheartedly, viewing it as simply a type of evolution. Regardless, the change seems to be mostly permanent and continues to be passed on to the Rhodokhros' offspring.
