"This dragon was rescued from the Hallowed Hall!"

______ It was difficult watching her two nest mates, Bellus Anima and Mollis Mediae, leave the Hallowed Hall. However it was inevitable. By the order of the Patriarch, the Dream Eaters were to separate and leave the Crystal Spire. They parted with no shed tears but Imber Tempestas felt loneliness sink into her heart.

At least she had the voices for company, because Arcanist knew that her brother Malacus Nimbus was useless for company. He'd much rather spend his day sleeping much like their father Mollis Somnus.

Today was different though. The sting of her nest mates leaving had not abated but for some reason her father and brother were much more active lately. The same thing could be said of the Hallowed Hall. The entire main antechamber was alive with activity.

Finally Malacus Nimbus walked up to her. His voice was quick, "Come on sister. Father is going to teach us how to fight."

Imber Tempestas felt a wave of incredulity strike her. "Why now? It's been years since he's shown much interest in us at all."

Malacus Nimbus rolled his eyes. "Just come on already. You know how he is."

She knew. The entire Crystal Spire knew of Mollis Somnus' affinity for sleep. It was that knowledge that gave speed to her steps as she trotted after her brother. She followed him deeper into the tunnels of the Hallowed Hall. A sickening wave of nerves hit her stomach when the air changed. Mold, mildew, salty brine, and an assortment of other hard to name odors struck her nostrils. There was no way that this air was healthy.

"Ugh," growled Imber Tempestas, "Nimbus why is father making us go down into this horrid place?"

The deep rumble of Mollis Somnus' voice answered, "Because fighting is dirty. If you are going to learn how to properly fight, then you need to steel yourself for the environment that such heart pounding conflict brings. Now brace yourselves my children...you will learn the true reason why dragons have come to fear me."

It was a rigorous training schedule that Imber Tempestas was made to endure with her brother. Their father was severe, far more so than either of them had ever seen, but he made certain his technique was engraved into their bones. By the time that Noctis Timore's coup finally arrived both Dream Eaters were easily capable of fighting in their sleep, just like their father.

Imber Tempestas lost herself in combat. She could barely recall who she even fought during that terrible day. When it was finally over, she did not feel like a victor. She felt dirty and...evil. To see the horrified faces of the losers, the mothers that either had to see their husbands, sons, or daughters fall into crystal stasis; it hurt.

Imber Tempestas did not find comfort in her father, he exiled himself into the depths of the Hallowed Hall when he learned of Noctis Timore's imprisonment. She was unable to find comfort in her brother, because he did not share the same guilt. He was built of sterner stock than she gave him credit for. She did not find comfort in the eyes of the other dragons; either they were the eyes of mothers filled with scorn or they were the indifferent eyes of the Angels of Rebirth.

Her only comfort was found in the voices. The only gift that she inherited from her mother. The voices of the dead told her to leave, they urged her to follow in her siblings' pawsteps and go out into the world. There was a place, a place where she may be able to find a better use for her gift.

She was a Dream Eater after all. None said that she couldn't eat nightmares and bless the troubled soul with a peaceful night's rest, soothed by dreams of a gentle rainstorm. It was an epiphany and the nudge that Imber Tempestas needed to go out into the world. She followed the guidance of the voices toward her next adventure.
