Children (if you can call them that) of the walking Wyrmwound virus and the escaped lab-grown pathogen are... unusual to say the least.

Their single goal in life is this: to spread the infection. What better way to do that than to take on the form of a dragon and walk where they please? No region is safe from the onslaught that is the offspring of Valeth and Xinew, and they’d pose a much more serious threat were not for the fact that there’s only two of them and Sorineth is as vast as the sky is blue.

Rend doesn't live to maturity.

At least, that's what his creators think. The instant they realise that the strain of disease he's been made to carry is the very thing that's killing him, they make a choice to cut costs. Which means abandoning him to the harshness of the Wasteland, even before his stubby wings grow in and he truly understands the fate that has befallen him.

It's a rational decision, if a little cruel.

His cries are plaintive and pleading, and they echo endlessly in the vast emptiness.

But it is not the heat nor the dust nor the hunger that bothers him. No, it's the burning in his veins as the disease he carries slowly begins to devour its own host.

But the cries catch the attention of an equally wretched creature. One that shambles and drags its heavy form towards the hatchling with intent. Rend, eyes overflowing with bubbling tears, meets Khaso. An Imperial being killed by a different, but equally cruel, infection. The Imperial picks up the hiccuping Spiral and staggers home.

Rend gives the statuesque drake new vigor, even as both wither away.
