"So dull" they would go on, and she felt wounded and small, wanting to be smaller still. She had been a mere child, not understanding why their cold remarks burned so much.
Born a Skydancer their unpleasant feelings towards her scratched at her like claws, and she couldn't keep it out. Her parents tried to teach her, make her understand they were just jaloux of her gleaming feathers, but in the end she ran away. She never wanted the sense of other dragons' feelings in her head again, so she opted to change. She chose the smallest change available, since she still wanted to be smaller than she was, and when she finally found herself in the form of a Fae, her earlier senses completely dulled like the color of her coat, she found peace within herself. She finally learned to appreciate her own reflection too. Dirt wasn't a bad color. It was the tone of the earth from which all grew. She could live with that.
