The flame that raged within Lime was poorly reflected by his outer combustion. Sure, the audience showed an appropriate amount of concern when the dragon rolled himself through showoil - a unique concoction of his own making, perfectly flammable but impenetrable through his clothes thanks to a charm - and dropped the match. He hesitated to imagine what faces they'd make if his act included a touch more of the truth.

With every spell, a price.

The charm granted him a power over the elements scarcely enjoyed by dragonkind, but the displacement of pain needed its home. The burn of the flames, then, ate at his heart until the thing was nothing but a sooted mass.

"All of you children are worthless to me. You scarcely deserve names, no less my attention."

It had been some time since he had settled a nest.

"If the hatchlings are defective, it's no more my fault than it is yours. Take responsibility for your genes."

No less been with a mate.

"Leave magic? Ho, you'd like that, wouldn't you? Unlike you lot, magic is the one thing that responds to me. Performance will always come first, unless you give me good reason to see it the other way."

Wind magic, ice magic, fire magic. All of it served to mold him into what it saw fit. But amusingly, he had convinced himself of just the opposite.
