 Kureno never belonged anywhere, and he never tried to pretend otherwise. He knew his colors were special - starmaps and constellations were so rare, and practically a prize in the Arcane Realm - that it didn't matter what breed he was. Guardian, Imperial, Tundra - no matter what, his genes granted him unmistakeable beauty, which of course meant he was annoyingly arrogant. He was fond of his days as a Nocturne in particular, thriving in the darkness during Night of the Nocturne, when his markings shone brightest. There was no territory in Sornieth that he could ever truly call home. From the Sea of a Thousand Currents, to the Everbloom Gardens, all the way to the Fortress of Ends, Kureno had traveled everywhere, met every dragon, and flourished on his own in every lifestyle. Still, he never belonged, and as he entered adulthood, he knew there was more to his isolation than his colors. He was… better, superior, perhaps nearly immune to the vulnerabilities of age and time and space and movement in some way. His final transition into a Pearlcatcher solidified his suspicions as the sudden appearance of a pearl made him feel possessive in a thrillingly immortal manner - dangerously and brutally so - and in that possession, Kureno believed he finally found not a home, but a true purpose. The Project approached him as he was constructing a burrow for his pearl somewhere in the mountains of the Sunbeam Ruins. He needed somewhere warm, safe, and clean for his pearl. Somewhere no other dragon could stumble upon it, and if they did, he would accept that his colors would be marred by their blood, his perfect marks tainted by murder, teeth stained with flesh-colored chunks, and the bodies would be part of what protected his pearl, yes, they would provide the warmth… Kureno was exactly what the Project was looking for - lost, and therefore easily manipulated - and he had no idea he was even part of their organization. These violent thoughts weren't his own (were they?), yet he felt a pull towards the pearl in a way that drove him absolutely mad with curiosity and desire and ambition. Only one word consumed his mind after he first encountered the Project - Pearl.
