Custom Usermade Apparel Tool

Allowing users to make apparel that follows site guidelines will help encourage creativity and community engagement amongst players as well as ease the workload for staff. It will enrich gameplay and help expand the player base as well as retain long-time players.

Rules and Guidelines:

All apparel submissions would need to fit within the theme of the game as well as strive to match the style of existing site art in order to keep cohesion. Example: No obviously modern technology or references, or no overly painterly apparel, as it would clash with the cell-shaded style of official apparel. "Keeping it canon" for custom apparel is a reasonable rule, considering there are no such restrictions for skin/accent submissions.

How the selection process could work:

A user creates an apparel piece or set on one dragon base, submits it to the site through a similar method as skin/accent submissions for approval. If the piece is approved the user could then move on to completing the apparel for all the other breeds and poses. This would save players from doing too much work before they know for sure if their apparel set will be approved. No one wants to spend 20+ hours on something only to have it denied.

Releasing and Selling Custom Apparel:

To avoid chaos and disorganization and to keep the enthusiasm for staff-made apparel set announcements, custom apparel sets could be scheduled for release at set times that work with the rest of the release schedule that staff works with. I believe it would be easier to let staff make an official Custom Apparel release rather than leave it to the maker to handle all sales. It would help boost the economy without blowing it up, as a custom piece of apparel would be available like regular apparel, rather than as a limited print accent/skin.

Perhaps a new micro-holiday could be created to accommodate the release of custom apparel, lead by a new Trading Post character (who I have named Clover in this post), after the holiday is over it could be "retired" to a tab in the marketplace. This could also help keep a deadline for when the rest of the apparel set would need to be submitted in order for it to be released that holiday. If a submission is late, it will just be included in the next release.
