Biography
She/her pronouns!
Said to be the founder of Ghumud City, Metis has seen it all. She has been living in these sandstone structures for many, many years, and witnessed the growth of the once little settlement to a bustling city where merchants from all over Dragonhome gather to trade their wares. The Citizens all recognise her mighty silhouette and greet her with respect whenever she walks by. Although not officially its ruler, many see her as the leader of the City. Metis has connections with every important figure in town, and if you need anything done, you can just come to her. Need your annoying rival gone? Searching for a new, fancier home? Want a better job? Metis can arrange it for you. Her services are not without a price, however, but whatever it is she asks you to do in return, it will in some way benefit the City, since the prosperity of the town is Metis's main interest. The City is her Guard, and she will do anything to keep it standing.
More Ghumud City lore points:
- upholds an active trade relationship with the nearby harpy city a few miles further northwards in the ravine
- an isolated town, with a magical forest to the northwest of it and some dry farmlands in between
- the area around Ghumud is a barren and uninhabitable wasteland, of which elders tell stories about ancient ghosts and haunting figures appearing at night, ascending from the caves under the desert to roam the silent wastes
- magic acts weirdly in the city, partly due to the mythal keeping the town's weather and climate in check, but also because of a mysterious disturbance in the magical and elemental field with the hill of Serghantej as its center point
- Ghumud is ruled by a pseudo-government, the City Council, comprised of appointed guild leaders and city elders squabbling over pointless details and never getting things done
- the true rulers of the City, the ones who pull the strings and have the influence, are Metis and Minka, respective heads of the mercenary guild and the organised crime network
- a big stone rampart protects Ghumud City from whatever crawls around in the desert at night, patrolled by the highly respected City Guard who keep a close eye on everyone who passes through the entrance gates
- just outside the City Walls, a well-built stone bridge connects the two sides of the ravine and provides an easy passageway for carts from Ghumud City to its smaller counterpart on the southern cliff, affectionately called Little Ghumud
- Little Ghumud is jus
t a less busy extension of the City, a suburb so to speak, where most of the tradesdragons have their houses. There are a few shops and one market square, but mostly it's meant for living instead of commerce.
- a smaller branch of the Two Towers Research Facility is also located in Little Ghumud, and the keen-eyed onlooker can see a myriad of bewitched scrolls and messengers with artifacts and equipment flying perpetually from the big towers to the smaller tower on the other side of the ravine
- Ghumud Harbor is the seaside enclave of the City, connected with its mother city through a trade route through the ravine, bringing in all seabound trading goods for the City's many marketplaces
